Hi

I have what looks like a warped magic Mary on the front of my bike.

I would say its always been a little wobbly but seems to have got worse. I thought it was to do with the orange line being skewed but from the side you can deffo see it.

I am running tubeless so took it off cleaned up and remounted but this hasnt done anything to help

Wheels are true

Any ideas to fix it. Take off and try remounting again. Pump up to 50 psi or is it a bin job.

If it is a new tyre then will look for something else. Although I hear maxxis can be like this as well.

Cheers

Is it seating correctly ?. Maybe apply some fairy liquid around the bead.

I had a conti X-King that buckled. drop into a bombhole, w hard cornering in the compression. New bike, new wheels, I was pretty relieved to find out the chainstay scrubbing and the massive wobble was all because of the bargain bin tyre from on-one that had seen a bit of use already.

I binned it.

Yeah checked all around the head. It looks pretty solid and equal all around

Its a shame as other than that it's a good tyre but don't want it to suddenly fail

Another thing I just remembered is that when we had a summer there were a few bubbles in the sidewall like blisters..which doesn't sound good

Thanks

If it's got bubbles in the sidewalls or the warp is more than a few mm either way then I wouldn't be running it on the front! Either switch it to the rear or bin it, if it's relatively new it could be a warranty issue.

Back when Conti tyres were known for it I was running Trail Kings. Had my front one completely buckle on me while at Chicksands the day after a Jedi training day, pitched me over the bars and broke 3 ribs. That got replaced under warranty and ever since I have been wary of a wobbly front tyre, even when new. Just not worth the risk personally.

If its mounted right and in the tyre casing then nothing will fix it. I've had 3 Schwalbe's of different types that did this from new, it seems to be something they suffer from in their manufacture since they switched to the Addix style rubber compound. Am still running a RaRa with a slight wobble on the front as am too stubborn to replace it, not noticeable at low speed but enough for it to pulse on a fast road descent.

To be fair have had Maxxis do this too, but different in that the wobble developed over time, maybe after a period stored folded in the shed.

If it wobbles too much the bin is the appropriate receptacle. Warranty if new...but obvs, do check first that the rim is undented and tape is clean and even and not the cause, check there's nothing preventing the tyre bead from interfacing with the rim hook, like old dried up sealant or tape glue residue.

I was opening the thread expecting it to be a Maxxis.

Never had it with a Schwalbe to anything like the degree I've seen it in Maxxis tyres, but if it's lightly used it's probably worth an email to their CS.

If it's heavily used, it's probably due replacing anyway.

I have heard that MM’s in particular can be prone to this. I’ve had one on the front for a while now and have learned to live with it, but it’s not too bad and only really apparent when looking at the front tyre at speed....which is best avoided anyway!!

Me too, or a spesh.

Taken it off again and remounted. It's on correct. Slight fold over on the rim tape but nowhere near the bead. It went on pretty easy with the air shot.

Still the same so Gonna scrap it. It's a year old just annoyed I didn't question this when new and warranty it then

So new front tyre time. Magic Mary in ultra soft or assegai in max grip. Couldn't get on with minion previously

Any other recommendations

Cheers

Can happen any brand, I finally got my hands on a Maxxis WT DHR in DD carcass, and it was warped out of the box.

I was expecting a Conti.

Other recommendations? - I am getting on well with a wild enduro in the current mixed (wet) conditions.

Weird though that this never used to be a thing...know nothing about the actual practicalities of casing construction but maybe it's that they're using a different type of process these days, or maybe it's just quality control issues. Some Schwalbe tyres when new have an unusual centre line of rubber moulding excess (in contrast to those evenly spaced rubber hairs you get on Conti's so made in a different way) I can imagine that it they're made by some sort of sandwiching of two half's of the moulding coming together that there's scope for some misalignment- sometimes you notice when a centre tread crosses the mould line that the two halves don't match up rotationally so that happens for sure.

This is probably next level rubber sniffing though...but defo into it.
