Enjoyed that and even enjoyed his South Downs videos. He comes across as a bit of a moany d##k (I suppose that's just his style) and I bet he would be a knightmare to ride any distance with.

He's still got the skills though.

Good advert for the EP8, his doesn't seem to rattle much either.

Having walked the GR5, that's a tough route, particulalry when the weather is grim. I did it in June and the snow was at 2500 meters.

Benji watching both videos I'm guessing it's a long established hiking route that is now supposedly suitable for bikes ?

@oldfart Yeah. There's a nmumber of GR (grand randonnée) throughout France and Corsica, however, whilst they are primarily walking routes, they can be ridden with some hike-a-bike (primarily because it's so steep). I certainly wouldn't want to tackle it in poor weather. I wouldn't say it's fully suitable for bikes, although the downhills would certainly be fun! There was a write up on here a few years ago from a couple of guys who rode it. Will see if I can find the link.

Here's the link. I'd absolutely love to do this, however, costs, time off work and family make it a bit tricky!

@oldfart

I guess it's not so much suitable for bikes but that the French don't designate rights of way as footpaths or bridleways so if its a ROW you can crack on riding it.

There’s a lot of moaning considering they were riding e-bikes and not carrying their own stuff!

Well that's confirmed I don't fancy that route! Some of it looks pretty hardcore...

Was a good watch, thanks. He really does like a good moan and I wonder if that is part of him. No doubt some for the camera but although it was all dramatic, the reasoning was sensible. Suspect I'd have done the same decision but without all the dramatic effect.
It looks a great route but definitely a real challenge. I'd love to do it but suspect I'd have turned back way sooner (lack of fitness, normal bike and lack of ability!).
Think he dropped a chain and a misshift, if that is the only issues then the Shimano kit seems to be decent i.e. no worse than other kit.

Warner came across as sensible given the circumstances & quite distant from the persona he usually portrays.

Really tried to enjoy this, but neither of them come across well. Also ebikes, supported, not carrying anything - it's all just not my cup of tea.

Will watch that later.. we rode a lot of the GR5 in 2012 on loaded MTBs, it's hard with a lot of H-A-B. After a couple of days of tough footpaths we started going off-route more, following VTT trail signs and using the map to keep tabs on where the actual GR5 was. We prob were on the actual GR5 for about 60% of the ride to Nice (there's sections where bikes aren't allowed anyway). Brilliant ride all in all with some incredible trails.

Wilkins and Warner talking about it here if anyone's interested, from 22 mins.

https://theridecompanion.co.uk/blogs/latest-ride-companion-episodes/rob-warner-and-the-christmas-building-site-special

It was Warner's project, the first major one he'd managed, with a lot of organisation and planning behind it. So much more than the fact he was having a shit time, he's gutted not to be getting the epic shots of epic scenery and epic riding for his epic mtb film. Instead he's getting shit riding, shit, dangerous weather, no scenery, a failed objective and his whole film/project looking like it's falling through his fingers.

Not just an invited, paid rider on a jolly who's throwing his toys out of the pram cos its raining.
