Am I asking too much?
All the 'thin' windproof gloves I've had have leather palms / towelling thumbs so aren't windproof all over so I end up getting cold hands. Otherwise the big waterproof gloves are warm enough but aren't very sensitive.
So is it possible to get a totally wind-proof (and waterproof as well) glove that will keep my hands warm without loosing too much dexterity on the controls? If they're cheap (<£30) that would be good too.
Dextrous?
The Aldi ones are surprisingly good. This year's were thicker than the older ones I have.
I had a fondle in the gloves section at Evans yesterday and think Im going to plump for some Endura Dexter gloves.
£25, windproof and not chunky, but do have ulna nerve padding.
Doubt theyre waterproof though
Aldi +1
Surprisingly good!
Can defo vouch for Aldi (once you get over te snob factor!) I use these for commuting to work and in all weathers (from a light drizzle to bloody drowning) my fingers are warm and dry. I use some alturas for mtb but these have been relegated to the wife and I rock the Aldi set round the trails. Unbeatable glove, truly unbeatable. Cost £5 as well.
If a product is good, I don't care about the label, however I did cut it off!!!! Have been commuting for a while and gone through several £20-£30 gloves. Aldis beat the lot
I wasn't overly impressed with the Aldi winter gloves. On bumpy/ rocky downhill sections they didn't provide very much grip at all for me. For £5 I was willing to take a gamble though.
Pieface - you'd be welcome to them to try out for yourself if you like. Size medium I think; worn once (very briefly). A contribution towards postage and they're yours. Email in profile if you're interested, but personally I'd look at something else, unless you just want them for commuting?
Aldi are the best ones in my collection for winter use and were a hell of a lot cheaper than the others too
Aldi +1
Last year's were pretty good.
I prefer them to my sealskins.
This years's have a different palm material and should be grippier. They're definately bulkier though.
I haven't used this year's in anger yet as last year's are still going strong and have been returned to active service due to me being soft!
I got some of those Extremities Velos last year, they were bloody awful. Well made, but not warm and not comfortable either, very bunchy. Didn't feel like cycling gloves at all to me. Gave them to my mum, she uses them for gardening.
Fox Antifreezes are the best winter gloves I've tried. They're fairly bulky, but very well shaped so that even with the inner lining fitted they're not restrictive (raced downhill in them a couple of times, no bother). But not cheap.
I recently received a pair of these after someone else on here recommended them...

They're single layer so breath nicely and were slightly too warm on todays' ride (south). Very grippy and slightly padded on the palm. All in all a good glove for cold and wet conditions but not waterproof. A fine replacement for my ageing PI Gavias.
I paid £14 but they're even better value now they're a tenner...
Northwind........i have been using em for nearly 10yrs, with no problems.
the ones i am using now are 3 yrs old, and i have only just started using them again. i wonder if they are made differant now?
but, saying that, i am on the lookout for some new warm clobber myself, my meds and the cold do not mix at all. 😀
Altura night vision windproof or some Outdoor Designs Take leather for me, Alturas when really cold and Takus when its cool.
Spesh deflect are good.
I got these last year through Amazon for £15 and they've been great, very warm and still look and feel like new after being through the washing machine a few times

They're definitely not waterproof! Although depending on what you want them for this may or may not be an issue- I'm not a big fan of waterproof gloves so personally it doesn't bother me. Also I've found them too short in the wrist- there's always a really annoying gap between sleeve and glove. They're not up for freezing temperatures either although they don't claim to be full-on so that's fair enough. I mainly use mine for a shortish commute/about town riding but I'll be looking for something else this winter.
Endura nemo? not used them but tempted to get a pair when back in stock
I like my aldi ones for a fiver, bargain.
