Assuming its very wet and Im at Natty Bridge on the way to Newfield Inn, whats the best way to not fall into a bog?

Avoid Long Mire, goCarter Ground - Stainton Ground bit of tarmac then Park Head Road

or Carter Ground then stay on BW around Ravens Crag to Park Head Road?

Did you work out an answer to this? I'm contemplating the same thing question.

As I remember it (fair few years since I've ridden the area), the crossing of Long Mire Beck at Stephensons Ground  was a bog in the summer so will be a nightmare at the moment so was looking for other options to get back around to Seathwaite. Is going straight up Long Mire an option or will that also be a bog?

Long Mire straight up to Park Head Road isn't too bad even in the depths of winter. It will be a push but soon over.

+1

First part of the path is fairly well drained, and there are a few sections of bog as it gets higher, but nothing horrific by Lakes standards. If you've descended from Walna to Natty Bridge, you've been through worse already.

As I remember it (fair few years since I’ve ridden the area), the crossing of Long Mire Beck at Stephensons Ground

Do you mean heading south on the BW towards Jackson Ground? Yes - that bit is much boggier, another good argument for gritting your teeth and carrying on up over Long Mire.

Weather was bad for us so we just headed to Hawkshead through Grizedale.
