You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I know this has been done to death but..
I need to hang about four bikes then have a couple of daily use bikes lent up against them. I'm happy hanging bikes so not interested in a debate about fork seals or air in brake hoses
So what is the current best practice, pedal clips and stacking or hanging side by side with hooks mounted at an angle? I'm happy enough with cheapo hooks but will spend more if someone can convince me a more expensive option is a better option.
Tried both and I can get 6 bikes hung vertically by the wheels in the space it takes for 4 held by the pedals positioned horizontally. It's also easier to access any bike without having to reach above other bikes so for me, vertical is better.
Vertical hanging takes up a lot of floor space in your garage. I've recently installed some pedal hangars as I want to be able to put a car in the garage so hanging the bikes higher up and closer into the wall creates space to put a car in the garage. But hanging bikes has moved from one wall to two as the pedal hangars take up more wall space.
If you don't need the floor space then vertical hanging will enable more bikes in a smaller wall space.
For me the floor space was more valuable than the wall space, so I went with pedal hangers. Still wondering if it's worth investing in a few Steadyracks, but they are very spendy compared with the pedal hangers at about a fiver each.
I hang three bikes hanging from the ceiling offset so the frontwheel of one bike is by the cranks of the next, leaves the floor space free and doesnt stick out that far, I have used the rubber hooks with two for the bars and one for the saddle.
