I'm starting to use walkie talkies whilst out with mates on rides mainly due to mixed capabilities so we can make sure warnings are provided and that everyone is together. The basic setup works using standard PMR446 sets and ear pieces. However, taking your hands off the bars to find the mic is a pain and sometimes dangerous for the less capable riders plus I really don't like the cables flapping around! Also tried a throat mic setup with a PTT button which worked well but even more cables!
Anyone found a good cable free solution? I'm just looking at a bluetooth setup that works with the walkie talkies which is promising but I would like to hear if anyone has tried this before or found another solution to work?
This seems a faff, why doesn't a good rider go up front and stop when they reach a technical feature to provide a warning and maybe film some carnage and then another good rider go at the back making sure everyone gets down the trail?
Yep, I can see your point and to be honest I'm in the same place.
To be fair I ought to of explained that with my normal riding buddies this is not a option and we just ride and shout at each other as normal. This scenario has come about as I've moved and ended up getting some new people into riding via e-bikes, plus my girlfriend and this type of comms is how they like to ride with each other so I've had to adapt to it.
Now I've used them a few times, they are ok and there are some real positives to being able to chat away whilst riding. I do want to make it easier though hence looking at a no cable option.
