Does this happen at all trail centres? I'm always respectful of others I meet on the trail, and expect to see walkers on forest roads and bridleways. Recently though it seems a lot more people have taken to going walking on the singletrack bits at Afan, and according to the FC riding horses down them.

This is dangerous. There's miles of footpaths and other trails they can use in the forest. I appreciate there is a counter argument but I don't see many riders at Afan going off the dedicated trails. A friend of mine was doing ZigZags the other day and almost crashed when he came across a jogger blissfully plodding along with headphones on. Where's the sense?!

Standard rules still apply. shout "THIS IS STRAVA!" get your head down and whatever happens is automatically their fault

Not been to Afan so I can't make comment, but I just wanted to say (as a horse and bike rider) that horses, just like bikes, are not allowed to use footpaths.

As a separate comment, I would NEVER take my horse on a bike trail, even if shared access was permitted, as it's not fair to the horse to get the fright of it's life when a bike (or tiger as far as he's concerned) suddenly appears at high speed in front or behind us, it is also not fair on cyclists, who are not expecting to suddenly find a horse in the middle of the trail.

I ride horses too but don't own my own - I agree with Neil, I'd never even contemplate taking a horse even near, let alone on, a dedicated MTB trail. Unavoidable bits of A-road are bad enough on a horse - being in a silent bit of countryside and having a bike bear down on you, seemingly out of nowhere, at serious speed and with all the associated clanking, rattling and buzzing seems like a recipe for disaster! Anyone who does this is a complete idiot and shouldn't be allowed on a horse.

You get this on the family trail in the Forest of Dean. I know it's petty but it really annoys me. There's thousands of miles of footpath and they walk on the bloody cycle trail.

Also I got chased by an uncontrolled dog on the Verderers trail last week. It's owners were very apologetic, but they should keep it under better control.

Rant over.

Afan's having this problem due to the logging closing their trails. Oh and the local groups being pretty annoyed about all the funding going into MTB trails 😆

Come across people walking on the Twrch more often than not these days...

As much as I've had a few issues over the years with things like above
You do start to think if it's totally the fault of the walkers and not partly about poor signing

There was posts about this at Gisburn recently, Not all the far ends of trails have the no pedestrian signs up in fairness. Buuuuuuuut, what footpath zig zags about and has big rocks in the middle of it? I wonder if the one who caused choss (and injury) last week were just too stubborn to admit having made a mistake?

I've seen walkers on the trails twice. First was a lovely older couple coming down the climb out of glyncorrwg. They moved aside to let me through and we exchanged pleasantries. I'd have happily let them through but they beat me to it. The second was entirely different; younger bloke running UP the wall final descent. He didn't want to get out of the way. At first. He had a change of heart 😀

I used to run the black trail at Glentress, biggest problem was bikes going too slowly on the ups, I would have hoped they'd pulled to the side to let me through, they didn't seem keen.

😀

Seen cyclists and walkers going the wrong way around the red at Sherwood pines. However, the best was a bunch or orthodox Jews walking up the last section of the old chatel dh course past the purports banners and over the tabletop.

...and having a bike bear down on you.

Better to have a bike bear down on you than a bear bike down on you, in my experience. Maybe horses are to blame for knocking down all those trees.
