You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Wishful thinking that dreaded lockdown and normality will return soon and am investigating a possible 4 day ride through Wales.
I had contemplated the Sarn Helen Trail, but that seems to have fallen out of favour and I am now considering either the route followed for WalesDuro of Cycle route 8.
Ideally after something that takes in quiet roads and gravel / forest type trails rather than hardcore mountain bike trails.
Looking at the two routes it looks like the WalesDuro has lots of off road, but uses A roads too whilst the Cycle Route 8 uses quiet roads, but very little forest / gravel.
If anyone has any experience of either please do share. Planning on self supported / camping and riding a gravel bike.
Maybe choose a section of the GBDuro route that passes through Wales.
Walesduro is fantastic 2 days. Its fine on a gravel bike and it goes out to include fab tough climbs and quiet places. No real escape for a bit of main road nr Traws but its all good. We have done it twice and loved it. You can make it considerably easier but less fun with some map searching

I rode with whole of NCN8 in 4 1/2 days last year. There's some good gravel stuff on the first day as you head into the Beacons, and a bit more on Day 3 on an old drovers road. Day 4 starts off on a great track heading out towards Barmouth. Most of the rest though is quiet roads, some of which are pretty beaten up.
There's still some main drag where there isn't an alternative. It does go through a couple of Forests if you fancied tackling some singletrack but it's not really any kind of off-road route.
Day 1 of 5: https://pickled-hedgehog.com/?p=4412 if you want to see some pics of the route.
Thanks All.
Given what Ian & Alex has said I think I am leaning more towards the Walesduro route, but over 4 days not two. I suspect there are plenty of wild camping places along the route or failing that campsites nearby?
We stayed in B&Bs 🙂 Saw a few camping but mostly close to towns we were passing through.
