You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
With another lockdown looming, it might be time to invest in a turbo. About a year ago I tried out the smart KICKR trainer in a shop and thought it was great. But it means leaving a bike in it, and needing to swap bikes so other people can use it, plus the wear and tear on the bike. Hence unless you have a spare bike, I’m not sure it’s worth the hassle.
The wahoo bike looks amazing, with an amazing price to match, but a smart trainer isnt cheap, especially if you add in the gravity/hill climb gadget!
Has anyone taken the plunge and bought one? It seems to offer more than a watt bike, with easy adjustability, but lots to go wrong!
But it does look cool and if it rides similar to the wahoo turbos should give good feel.
Stay safe!
Kickr's have all sold out again, I have two friends trying to get their hands on one, one spoke to rutland cycle's who said they're having a delivery next week so put a deposit down. Things are gonna go mad turbo wise with the gyms shutting I guess.
It's three grand. But it's got a grand's worth of smart trainer in it, a few hundred's worth of rocker plate and eight hundred's worth of front wheel uppy downy thing. Does it steer as well? When you consider that you don't have to be swapping wheels over, it seems less ridiculously expensive. Also it takes up a fair bit less space too.
If you've got the money, get one. I would.
EDIT oh, doesn't seem to go side to side. Shame, but I'd still get one.
I have a Kickr Climb. To get the most out of it you need to run Zwift at max trainer difficulty-default is 50%. If you do training in ERG mode it’s an almost pointless feature. I don’t think I’d miss not having it really.
Personally if I was in your position I’d prefer to use the money on a normal setup with the features you want that would potentially be far more flexible.
All id day is have a plan in place for sending the smart bike back when it develops a fault.
10,000km on my Snap without any
I'm referring to the smart bikes weeksy as they all seem to have had issues, most being first incarnations. Even the most mature (I think?) Wattbike has issues which I believe they have addressed with the new version shipping soon/now.
The Snap is the only trainer I had no issues with, it is indeed a great trainer.
I had a Neo 2t that went back and I'm now on my third Core. Fingers crossed. I should have stayed with the Snap really, sold it for a song not long before lock down V1 came in. Sunshine on here for a bargain though.👍
^^ Sorry, bloody predictive!
My mate reckons he gets 10% more power on a Wattbike at the gym than he does at home on a dumb turbo with a PM. Could be anything, could just be inaccuracy.
If you do training in ERG mode
Also known as sadistic bastard mode. "Oh, you've slowed down a bit.. struggling are you? Let me turn up the difficulty.. now let me turn it up some more..! Hahah pedal you pansy!"
