Tempted to treat myself to one of these seeing as most of my riding is on a turbo these days. If you have one, what do you make of it? What's the good/bad? What do you feel it gives you above a normal turbo and power meter? Do you use it with any other apps (e.g. TrainerRoad)?

Thanks.

Edit... one more thing, how easy is it to get bikes on and off? Especially ones with sliding dropouts?

I've had one for about 6 months after selling on my Tacx Imagic and am very impressed with it.

I use mine with trainer road on a laptop, the only downside is that if you don't have blue tooth inbuilt on you have to by a specific dongle (a normal one wont work)or use ANT+

The feel of the riding is very smooth and probably the closest to riding on the road I've experienced on a trainer. The whole unit is very stable (and very heavy)

The power readings are accurate and closely track what's registered on my Vectors.

I manly use trainer road at the moment with Sufferfest Video's loaded in. After establishing your FTP the trainer road/Kicker/Sufferfest combination will adjust the resistance on the kicker in ERG mode so your working at very specific levels.

With regard to fitting your wheel its a standard QR and cassette set up so would be possible if not a little awkward

Thanks weeble. It'd be used with a mac mini with bluetooth 4.0 and the ANT+ dongle, so should be ok.

If you're using it with TrainerRoad, what's it like when it switches from a low to a high power in ERG mode? Normally I'd be moving up through the gears and building up to the higher value over a few seconds. Does it feel ok or is it a bit like riding into a wall? Is there an option to leave it up to you to control the power?

Thanks again.

Riding in ERG mode took a bit of getting used to. You just leave the gears alone and keep your cadence the same, you feel the resistance come on almost instantly like the transition from flat road to hill.

Trainer road also monitors your accuracy and gives you a % score for specific intervals, in ERG mode your hitting 99% all the time so its very specific.

You can control the power yourself, no need for any other software other than the wahoo app. On the highest resistance I can hardly move the cranks, the range of power/resistance is very impressive.

To be honest there's so much you can do with it.

Sounds like quite a change. When you're shift up the gears you can stay keep on top of the gear and keep the cadence up as you go, do you find it difficult to keep on top of the resistance change or does it feel quite progressive? I'll also start to build up the power a bit a few seconds before an interval, I guess that wouldn't really work as it'd just ease off the resistance to keep you at the same power. Like you say, it does sound like it'd take some getting use to!

Its all progressive after a while it feels quite natural though and you can just focus on suffering

Thanks for the offer, that'd be great but I'm down south. If I'm going that way anytime soon I may well be in touch.

Does anyone know if the rear skewer can be removed? Just want to check as I need to pop in a bike with sliding dropouts and it would be a pain without.

Noticed that wiggle are doing 12% off for BC members which is making this even more tempting... only 830 quid!

Yep, the skewer can be removed. Wahoo also makes a variety of different adapters and things for any other dropouts you may use with it in the future. It's hard to beat a Kickr!
