Going up to see family in a few weeks on the train and the inlaws are letting me borrow thier VW Up! while i am there.
I'm taking my bike but i'm wondering if it will fit in the boot (with back seats down) with both wheels off, as a bike rack is not an option. Its a long and slack bike so a wheelbase of just over 1200mm and has 770mm wide bars. It will only be me so i can pull forward the front passenger seat if needed.
Anybody mountain bike and have a VW Up! in the family?
If the front seats fold then surely it would?
I've never tried getting a bike in the back of the OH's UP!
(insert sexual innuendo here..)
If nobody has an answer for you directly I can give it a try tonight and see how it goes. I would have thought that with both wheels off it should be fine.
Cool much appreciated Splash-man
A friend of mine has one. MTB (size M XC 27.5er) fits with both wheels off and back seats folded flat.
I've transported a 29er in the back of a Skoda Citigo - that's pretty similar - so it will fit
A guy that works for me has an UP and has just confirmed he can get his 27.5 hardtail in with just the front wheel off.
I managed to fit a goat in the back of a Yaris once. HTH
my OH would murder me if I tried to put a bike in our Citigo - officially 'her' car, whereas the beat up Scenic is my domain complete with chainring and tyre marks on the inside - but good to know its possible in an emergency.
Great little cars those.
All sounds good. I know with slack headangles, long top tubes and wide bars bikes def. aren't as compact as they used to be even with with the wheels off
Wrong manufacturer I know but I've managed to fit my large 2017 Trance in a Citreon C1. Front wheel off - passenger seat folded forward.
Reckon it should be alright.
Again, wrong manufacturer, but I can just get my large Aeris 145 (1250mm wheelbase) in our Alfa MiTo with both wheels off and dropper down - reckon the UP is a bit bigger tbh.

Can you advise how - any photos? After this thread I had a go with my friend's bike in his UP! and there was no immediately obvious way of making that work.
I used to get a large 29er in an Up no front seats folded.
Paint was very soft mind you so watch that.

Just to be clear, I meant he can't with only the front wheel off - with both wheels off it goes in quite easily.
Yep, my old Orbea Rallon used to fit in my Up with both wheels off, no problem at all.
Back seats flat, passenger seat forward a smidge.
Plenty of room for bags and kit around the sides.
I fit my large spesh enduro bike in the back of an UP with both wheels off easily enough, my dj bike fit with just the front wheel off. The car is brand new however so after a few goes I got tired of being so careful and just bought a roof rack. Selling the roof rack at the end of summer though as can't seem to stop them making a whistling/whooshing sound...
Different vehicle (and era) I managed 2 GT I-Drives and camping gear in a Fiat Siecento.
