Have we done this yet?
Looks like a nice system. I am considering giving it a go in my 180 Lyriks.
Thing is I have a Fox X2 air spring on the back (Mondraker Dune). When experimenting changing air to coil most people change the rear shock first which makes sense especially with rising rate linkages that work well with linear coils. But My problem is with my hands feeling battered on long Alpine descents and I have always felt the forks are the limiting factor in terms of getting tired and having to slow down. I run 20mm less travel on the back but still feel my legs cope tons better than my arms in terms of taking the punishment- If I have to stop its because my arms are dead!
I have upgraded to 2019 air spring and although it feels nice I still reckon a coil would be way more sensitive. But then there is the problem that if I don't like it I probably will have damaged the inside of the stanchions and cant go back to air again. Also will I be the only person in the world running coil at the front and air at the back?
Tempted but not sure....opinions?
The Vorsprung kit has the additional bits to help the linear nature of a fork, Vs the (depending on design) progressive nature of the rear suspension.
I run a DHX2 on my Madonna, ran an 11-6 on the back of my Fuel, so well versed to running a coil out the back and how much better they feel (IMO) even over a good air shock.
I haven't as yet felt the need to go for a coil out the front, am currently running a '19 F36 with the Grip2 damper & it's probably the first big Fox fork i've run that doesn't hammer my hands and arms. I am curious to try it, however, my bike is already 15kg, so i'm loathed to add another half a kilo when the fork actually feels pretty good. Trying one isn't exactly easy though 🙂
Have you thought of fitting a Vorsprung Luftkappe to the fork? Cheaper, won't do any internal damage, supposed to be a big improvement in small bump compliance, chatter etc.
Got a friend who's doing a DIY coil conversion on his fork while keeping his air shock out back. So no, you won't be the only one. This is on a '17 or '18 Slash. I'm fairly intrigued to be honest, while acknowledging I'm nowhere near good enough to make full advantage of something like this.
Interested in the coil conversion for lyriks too. I saw in an article that they couldn't guarantee that you would be able to convert back to air but it would probably be fine, though to be honest I doubt you would want to go back to air. My coil boxxers were amazingly plush and had better mid stroke too than any air forks I've used.

yes has been done to an extent. Mine is ordered and will be fitted mid march. Luftkappe is damn good mind. What Lyriks have you got? Haven't SRAM essentially copied the luftkappe idea for 2019 forks?
I've had my 2018 fox 36s a year, and will have them for 2 more more years so i'm fine (well, more OK) with spending the cash.

Yes although I don't think the neg air volume is quite as big as luftkappe but its certainly an improvement.
2017 180 Lyriks but complete 2019 internals (spring and charger 2 RC2 damper - I didn't want boost)
I'm going to buy one but only if I can collect it in person from their Whistler HQ in August.
Which depends on a lot of other stuff obviously.
I've got on on preorder from TF.
Going in a 36 that I've never been 100% happy with.
Ordering one from TF tuned for my revelation. Upgrading the damper at the same time to an open bath damper form crconception. Should make it into an amazing fork 🙂
