Worth a punt for £299 +£2.99 delivered? (Currently on sale 33% off)

if not - what would you buy (used) for same budget? Love my old M-Trax, yet vees are shit in the winter, not to mention destroyers of nice rims. I'm itching to do some regular recreational/adventure cycling with disc brakes.

"Halfords in 33% off Shocker!!"

It's a £300 bike. If you're happy with that then buy away. Just don't get sucked into thinking they massively discount their own brands, they don't. Just over inflate the RRP.

I get yr point. I don't know much about road bikes, but Voodoo has worked out well for me in the mtb world - I had a (used) Voodoo Wanga, knowing that they were sold at 50% off rrp (for about £500 iirc), and it was punching way above the sale price.

Anyway, bike budget is fubard - only have £300 tops - so the advice is appreciated. Buying new is always a risk imo, better (used) bargains usually appear a week after, just when you're spending out replacing the saddle and [s]bemoaning[/s] trying to ignore the dull and uninspiring ride qualities of your new [s]blingy tat[/s] bike 😡

(Goes to look at Jamis Nova Sports). Thanks!

It would probably do quite nicely as an all weather on/offroad commuter: claris, mechanical discs, shame it's not got rear guard/rack eyelets and the steel fork is probably a bit heavy/harsh but it's a credible triban 3 alternative IMO...

bloody hell the old Limba used to be a great bike, carbon seat stays and forks, a great spec I looked at a few 2nd hand around the £500 mark

That's a different beast but for £300 I'd take a chance

Nowt remotely naff about a bizango. Brand snobs missing out on a cheap gem with that bike.

I was a bit surprised when I followed the link in this thread, it's fairly been downgraded over the years.

Only thing that put me off the old one was very limited range of sizes (54 or 58 only iirc).

I've had two of the old Limbas - the Scandium one with disc mounts & sliding dropouts & the even older 853 one. Both brilliant.

That one is probably worth a punt at £300, but it's not a proper Voodoo.

Hey John_l oddly enough I also had an 853 one in orange and I've just finished building a scandium/carbon one (with the MT55 wheels I bought from you).

Oh and the scandium one was available in 56

My Scandium Limba snapped in two along the downtube decending on the road from Ribblehead into Hawes. Really light bike too light for me replaced with a Kinesis which was a lot more solid.

Wiggle were doing the Claris-spec GT Grades for £350 the other day which was hard to resist. I'd be tempted to see if they'll go down again in the January sales.

Hmmmmm

In other news - If some sterling and vouchworthy STWr (or bike shop? Any reccs?) lived near Belper and could pickup and box a bike for me to arrange courier - then they would get beer n stuff and I'd never have to buy a Half***s thing in my life 8)
