Hi there
So I have worked for the one company for the last 22 years!
I am working as a project management Business analyst for the last few years and plan to look for a new role doing the same. Still feels very strange here waiting to go to the pub on the beer for the last send off.
So it's off for a few weeks to do some stuff around the house and have a holiday (do some biking). We both work for the same company and my wife is staying.
It's going to be very weird on monday waking up with no job to go to. Still though at least it's by choice!
Guinness Boy!
What you need is a nice long break. You will have got the maximum 10 year package one assumes, so don't panic, enjoy some time off !
Yeah enjoy a week or two off - experienced project & programme managers as well as decent business analysts are in a demand in IT at the moment so can't see it taking you long to find something else - or just try getting into contracting if you have enough of a pay-off cushion
I'd suggest you spend a bit more time on here - that's a bloody slack history 👿
It takes at least 3 months to get a professional job. So get comfy and make a brew!
I've been there. It feels weird not to be practising your profession but it was one of the best things thats happened to me. I have my own consultancy now (electronic hardware) and was back on contract at my old company 6 wks later. Less hours, less responsibility and several times the money, and no "politics". win win.
Oh yeah, and I can spout off here whenever I want....
Always plenty of demand for freelance and short term project managers, qualified or otherwise...enjoy the holiday!
Enjoy.
I was made redundant in December 2011 and started looking for a job in January 2013. There is plenty around but the job market is a lot different to how it was (internet now exists, agencies are king, registering on Jobsite, CV Library and a couple of others does mean people will start coming to you, also get onto linked in) - but in the meantime do some of the stuff you have always wanted to do.
I learned to build wheels, qualified for as a bike mechanic, rode LEJoG, broke my elbow, did quite a lot of riding, had a holiday, had some fun etc. So make the most of some time out. People are generally frustrated they can't do the same but such is life.
Also take the time to work out what you really want to do. I am aiming to go back to pretty much what I was doing before which is mainly down to maximising my earning for time not having fun more than it being what I enjoy, but what I enjoy doesn't pay very well.
Hope the beer is going down well!
Enjoy the break.
Have a holiday then do the things that you've been meaning to do but never had the time to do.
Then go riding. Lots.
Then, when you're ready, think about what you want to do work wise.
Hope it works out.
Taking VR after 13 years* is one of the best thing I've done. Enjoyed a nice 6 months off over summer, rode my bikes a lot, did a bunch of DIY and some volunteer work. Then a couple of interesting jobs came up and I got one.
Good luck!
* although only really the last year that was pishy as it was clear we were for the outsourcing chop.
Money in the bank, no pressure. Have a good think and maybe have a crack at something you want to do, rather than something you ended up doing.
Life is too short.
