Currently got a (different) bike on order but after several weeks of waiting and not yet having a definite delivery date from the factory, I'm getting a little impatient! The Sommet was on my original shortlist and I'm getting tempted to cancel my order and go self-build on one of these.

There have been some good reviews of them but just wondering what real-world experiences are like? Anyone got one?

I recently bought a VRX in their sale http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/vitus-bikes-sommet-vrx-suspension-bike-2015/rp-prod120725

So far so good other than a niggle with the forks which are currently being looked at, I don't hold this against them as I seem to have issues with all forks inc current Pikes!

Down points first

Heavier than claimed (normal but even more so), rear tyre about 1050g! Mine with a rock razer and my old carbon bars plus converted to tubeless is 31lbs inc pedals

That's about it actually

Plus points

Rear end great, lovely feel. Wheels (once changing rear tyre) quite light and feels nippier than my mid travel 29er despite that having lighter wheel package.

Excellent spec. Comes with the same e13 chain device as the Pro, just not shown in the photo.

I changed the 32T ring for a 30T due to preferring to spin, this means some slight bob (as it's designed for 32) but you wouldn't notice unless you looked down ie pracatically irrelevant.

The 31 lbs is more than I was hoping for but it rides lighter than that (coming from 29er as mentioned) plus that is a real weight inc pedals so pretty similar really to anything else out there and I doubt you will find a better spec for the money. I did have a brief fit when I looked up the price of replacement mechs/cassettes though!

Took about 5 working days to come and came in the largest box ever, even the wheels were installed, just the bars removed via the face plate! Box of manuals, reverb bleed kit, basic pedals, decent multi took, water bottle etc

Sounds good dlr, thanks for the info. Got any photos? 🙂
I had been eyeing up the VRX before, seemed like amazing value really but they're sold out of mediums now...but to be honest, I preferred the stealth look of the Pro anyway.

If I did, I'd be looking to get the Pro frameset, built up with Pikes, 1x11 Shimano XT or SRAM GX and Mavic Crossmax XL wheels. My current Five weighs around 30.5lbs so 31lbs isn't an issue, though with the Mavics that should help keep the weight down I should imagine.

I was thinking of doing similar with a Pro frame, some Mattocs etc but as I get wound up working on bikes I just bought this one complete lol, seemed like a good deal once you start adding up the bits etc

If this works..
