Vitus Sentier VRS - worth £300 over VR?

Hi all,
I am thinking of getting my first new bike since 2004...
I have pretty much decided on the Vitus Sentier (27 or 29) but can't decide if the VRS (currently £1359) is worth the extra £300 over the VR.
The main difference is a Fox fork Rhythm 34 compared with Marzocchi Z2.
Anyone got any experiences/opinions on either?

Main upgrades I can see is grip Vs rail damper on the fork, 12 speed Vs 11 speed (microspline on the 12 speed) and 4 pot brakes Vs 2 pot.

And a nicer colour than black.

I personally would want 4-pot brakes, but I am a big lad and ride big hills...

I’ve got a vitus with the fox 34 fork. Have to say I thought the fork was brilliant straight out the box.

Thanks all. Unfortunately, 'L' frames are out of stock on all Sentier variants at the moment so I'll have a further ponder.

I had the fox 34 Rhythm on my Solaris and now have the Marz Z2 on my Reactor. Not sure I can tell the difference really. Different bike as the fox was on a HT but they're both great forks that work.

How tall are you?

Also, the 27 VRX is in stock in size L. Would be a shame if you had to buy a better specced bike because the others weren't in stock... 🤔

That must have just popped back into stock...Not sure I can justify that price.
I am 5'11" so on the border between M and L.

Well. Based on my experience ([Shimano] neither of those would be considered an upgrade.

Might be worth looking at the voodoo bizango pro as an alternative.

The medium sentinel is pretty short reach but the large has a massive long seat tube which would put me off at 5’11.

Son has the VR in large, he's 5' 11"/ 6' 0".

The Marzochi fork seems fine. Deore 11 speed is awesome. Only thing he's had to upgrade are the brakes as he found the Shimano non-series too grabby, so bought some cheap(ish) Magura MT5s.

I think the Z2 is the fork with the cast in bushings that can fail early and can't be fixed... I'm sure there was a thread on here about it? Cost savings by the new owner of Marzocchi wasn't it?

Hi,

I got the 2022 Sentier VRS as I was getting back in to riding, it’s a great bike.

Hoewever it turns out that I’m not loving riding again. Seems that it is a hobby from my past still.

Shame that it’s an XL as I’m going to sell it.

Cheers

Thanks for all the replies folks. I had a try of a Bizango (non pro) and a Boardman MHT in Halfords yesterday in large and I think I'll need a medium after all.

27 VR here, spec is great apart from the brakes, and a new set of brakes can be had for less than 300.

Sizing is tricky, 5'10 here and on large, reach is good but seatpost is a bit tall.
