Bought a sentier vr 27.5 last year as a winter hardtail, it's had about 150 miles use so far.
Got the vitus down today to change the bent rear mech and the headset was stiff. So after doing the mech I thought I'll whip it apart.
The bearings are pressed into the cups and can't be taken out very easily at all without taking the headset cups out!
So I did that - the headset is made of plastic!!!
Bearings cleaned and greased - all ok there.
Now to press the cup back in, oh it pushes in by hand!!
So on the look out for a zs44/56 headset!!
Easy cut costing and familiar downgrade on most bikes. Just buy a cane creek model if I were you
I'll get the bird one as it's the same bearing size as the hope one. Got it on my am9, and had it on my am160 with no issues. For £30 no brainer.
The plastic cups tho acros!
The Acros one on mine was making horrible clicking noises after a few rides, binned it for a cheap Brand X from the great CRC sale which has been perfect so far. Acros really are crap, I've had 2 on 2 different Vitus frames and they both died after barely any riding.
They are OE stock on so many bikes, but shite!
