Hi,

Looking at getting one. Not sure on sizing. Size chart says I am smack in middle of medium (176cm) but the dimensions for the medium seem really small:

440mm/17.5" seat tube
420mm reach

a large is
480mm/19" seat tube
435mm reach seems a bit better.

I intend to use it for agro gravel/gentle XC type riding. Has anyone got one and can share their experiences?

I assume your looking at the aluminium version as the medium carbon version has a reach of 402.4mm which is even shorter!

I bought the VR for my son at 5’7, he recently won a London MTB series on it.  Lovely bike in the flesh and amazing spec for the money.  At 181cm myself I could ride it and it’d be good for tight and twisty single track.  There’s only 15mm difference reach and stack between M and L.

I don't know how helpful this is as I never actually bought one but I worked out I wanted the size up. The reach was longer, more inline with what I was expecting based on existing bikes. I could work with the seat tube length being long as I could still get a decent length dropper in.  I was comparing it to my XC full suss which had a reach of 460mm so definitely wanted something long to match.

Thanks all, i wasnt planning to add a dropper as i have a bigger bike fir thay sort of terrain/steepness thay needs one.

The large comes woth a 10mm longer stem so will be 25mm longer overall out the box, but i could fit a shorter stem to bring that down if i needed i suppose

Maybe Im just old skool in looking at geometry but why not just use eTT (or vitual TT as the sizing calls it), particularly with a gentle XC/ agro gravel need? 610mm on the medium sounds a decent length for 175.5cm height. Im your height and medium to me sounds spot on (Wouldnt want a large with 480mm ST and 630mm eTT!). Ive a Rapide FS in medium with a 612mm eTT...perfect fit for me.

Medium.

610mm on the medium sounds a decent length for 175.5cm height.

Worth remembering that the Rapide leans toward XC Race rather than XC Trail or down country or whatever, hence the length.

I'm 4cm taller than you and ride a large Scott Scale 910 with an 80mm stem which from what I can tell has very similar geo to the Vitus in large.

Also, what on earth is agro gravel?

Agro-gravel?! I guess i should work for a cycle marketing team! It was some BS phrase I made up (or saw written somewhere) but essentially:

I got a gravel bike in the hope of making little loops near me interesting as my 140mm FS dulled them all and the tarmac linking bits were too much hard work. The gravel is great on the tarmac and simple stuff but i have no confidence at all on anything a bit steep or lumpy, so think the most xc of xc bikes might be better. I also want it to open up some bikepacking options for me

I'be wondering the same.   I've been out with Junior twice on his since, the little whipper snapper now keeping up with me on the DH sections despite me being on a 150mm Occam!

The VR my son is riding is down from £1399 to £899.  I bought it at £999 in May.

They were £800 + postage last weekend as there was another 10% off.

Whats the actual weight of these? Seen a couple of reviews stating they are a fair bit heavier and one website review states 26lb so 11.8kg.

I put mine on bathroom scales (so I had to hold it) and got a very inaccurate 10.7kg. Some have said it weighs 11.7 when CRC says 11.1 (perhaps the tubeless difference). I am quite happy regardless of weifht. It rides light turns and accelerates easily

Gah, I wish CRC would sort out that Cycle toWork stuff, I'm tempted by one of these. With some rigid forks I think it could make a pretty good flat bar gravel ripper

Yes me to IHN!  I'm capped at £1k on my scheme so assumed I'd be spending more for a new bike, but the vitus fits comfortably under the limit!

Any idea when the price drops occur ? tempted... but even more tempted at £800 😉 How "stiff" is the frame? Guessing the weight is in the lower end wheels?

The bike has felt relatively comfortable so far, not too harsh at all.

Ths wheels are WTB's i25 light KOM which is their top alloy rim which weighs 460g, on vitus hubs. Im guessing there is no one area where weight be massively and easily chopped. I will prob lose the bar, stem and seatpost for higher quality lighter items. But expect the drivetrain adds some weight, but is expensive and a bit pointless to upgrade

Thanks Dave. Is there routing holes for an internal dropper post ?

Thats exactly where I am.  When I find a spare £500, I’ll look to get a set of Silt wheels and some carbon finishing kit for Jnr. The OEM wheels will sit as winter / spare wheels.

Mine has just arrived, managed to sneak a 5% discount code of a family member, not quite the 10% off from last week. It looks stunning, very impressed with it. It has th SRAM 4 pots on it too!

Ordered Wednesday night, arrived lunchtime today!

Give it a weigh if you don't mind!?

Fresh out of the box, it's 12.6kg without pedals (Size large). I imagine making it tubeless will drop it closer to 12kg.   The 4 pot brakes will be heavier than the 2 pots too.

@coconut, there is internal routing for dropper yes. Goes in at top of down tube through a shared port, out it's own port in front of BB, goes external around BB, then back in at bottom of seat tube.

I changed the wheels last year from the stock WTB to Silt Alloy XC, very happy with them but not "in tune" enough with my bike to say whether they were game changers or not...

My youngest has a VR. Really pleased and great value. Fitted with a dropper, the bar setup is a bit cluttered because of the fork lock out. It seems to handle everything that's thrown it and the frame seems well finished. The seat stay bridge is slightly annoying as it acts as ledge for mud and has a small gap that grit and mud gets lodged in. The wheels are OK, despite the rather poor hubs. The SID fork is really very good at this price point and more than good enough for a lighter rider or XC duties. Finishing kit is harmless, brakes are good and the 11 speed deore works perfectly, if not particularly light. Not sure what options are available for a lighter compatible cassette upgrade?

Been enjoying mine. Finding the grips/bars uncomfortable but £££ been a bit tight due to lots of birthdays so not replaced yet.

Too much sweep on the bar for my liking. Rest of bike feels great and the sram DB8 are excellent, really suprising as i dont like sram brakes.

It is routed for a dropper post so will add 1 amd see what it does for riding.

The clutch on the deore gears seems weal as i get a bit of noise, could be internal cable rattling or chain slap, not sure whi ch
