I need a replacement for my gashed double down Maxxis and I can't bring myself to spend £45-55. Vittoria have a downhill heavy duty casing Morsa tyre that is on offer at various places for less the £30. So has anyone tried Vittoria MTB tyres? They have wonder material Graphene in them and look suitably burly.
I have been using Barzo and Peyote tyres for about 8 months. I like them, swapped from schwalbe as I got fed up of sidewall splits. Mine aren’t graphene or tnt versions but I’m a mincing xc rider and they have been good so far.
Really happy with my Mezcal. Incredibly easy to set up tubeless, the graphene May contribute to the surprising amount of grip for their tread depth but I don’t know for sure.
Geax under another name? Worst tyres ever in my experience, downright dangerous lack of grip in any conditions.. Talking specifically about the goma which was touted as an euro enduro tyre.
I would look at wtb tyres as they make a tough variant. Im very happy with mine & they are well priced also.
I’ve been using TNT barzo, mezcal G+ and peyote for 2 years now, as above dead easy to set up tubeless and not prone to cuts. Really like them
Currently have a peyote and a mezcal,tnt graphene versions on my xc race bike,took a punt on them last year as I was going to buy ikons,glad I did,I'm really happy with them,so easy to set up tubeless,done more than a thousand miles,had many moments where I've scraped the sidewalls on jagged rocks and no splits or punctures,I've dinged my rear rim and the the tyre just moulded to the shape,all sounds to good to be true but that really is a year review in a nutshell,grip isn't the best in the mud or dry gravel but I can't name an xc tyre that is,I wouldn't be able to comment on a downhill/AM tyre from Vittoria,although I would probably spend my money to find out.
Chap at works raves about his. I've tried 2 sets of morzas and couldn't get either to inflate tubless in any way shape or form. returned them for a refund.

I would kind of disagree re. the Goma. It gripped well for me in a lot of conditions, but on one ride there were just too many moments where others were having no problem riding.
This was the previous gen, no graphene, and they were hard wearing and fast rolling - but that doesn't really matter for a burly dh tyre. I would hope they are a softer compound.
I had some back in the nineties, they were comparable with a lot of other tyres of the day for grip, and had that quality supple feel you get from a high end road bike tyre.
You may as well give it a go, if the grip is a bit poor, chuck it on the back.
Barzo up front and Seguro? rear for XC works well. No flint punctures in 2 years unlike with the RoRo's I had on before.
Goma wasn't so go but I suspect it's meant for rockier terrian

I've only used Gato 26", Peyote 29" and the 700 x 38c Adventure Trails. All have performed as well as I'd hope considering my expectations of their tread, etc. The TNT tubeless haven't given me any trouble. The peyote were fine on Velocity Blunt SS and the Adventure Trails on Sun rims that I don't think are tubeless ones either.
I'll admit it was mainly the price that attracted me to them initially but they feel "quality" and haven't had weepy sidewalls, etc.
Had a Goma once , never again , 4 rides and the bike tried to kill me twice !
Recently swapped from Rocket Runs to Barzo's and have now raced them twice in mixed conditions and ridden then 2/3 times. Far superior, excellent grip (TNT, not G+) and super easy to mount tubeless. I won't be going back.
I bought some Mescals to use when my Rons - now on the back - wear out. Cheap for £30 at Probikekit recently - yes the TNT Graphene version.
Re the quality feel - stick them next to a Schwalble and they look and feel much better. No misaligned tread blocks, no "obvious" joins, and the hang in a round shape the second you unfold them.
Geax tyres were super cheap last year, end of line stuff before their rebranding to Vittoria (same tyres, just now all under the Vittoria name , mtb & road tyres).
I've used the Saguro, Barro, Barro Mud, Mezcal , and Goma (front tyre on my Enduro bike, I liked it on the front!).
Give it a try for £30. Cheaper than some, but in some cases equally as good.
Only had one dry, frosty ride on my new tubeless(first time)Goma and thought it was OK. I am no DH “god” so first ride was a trail centre one, off-piste/local “Enduro” trails have still to be given a go. However the tyres are not the limiting factor on them, it’s my lack of stw skillz.....
Been running the Mota front and rear through the winter slop, super happy with them. Bit iffy on wet rock, but that is to be expected from this type of tred.
Also got a barzo on the back of the other bike, it's not been ridden much but I have no complaints so far.
I would definitely try more from their range in the future.

I had an AKA on the back over the summer. Not sure about the wear rate but I like it enough that I'd buy Vittoria/Geax again.

80g's (which lets be honest is naff all) V much stronger side walls, stay inflated and loose minimal air over a long period, last longer, cheaper. I know where my money goes.
I have a Goma on the back of my hack bike. I like it for hardpack conditions. Not sure I'd want it as a front tyre or in mud, but I bought some super cheap and they seem fine as a back tyre. I also had some other Geax tyres about 15 years ago, but don't remember the model. They had much deeper, closely spaced knobs. They came fitted to a new bike, seemed fine as an all round tyre.
Have got Mezcals (TNT, G+) front and rear, having had some Michelin Force XCs. So far done > 2000km and only slight wear. They hold air well, bit slippery in mud. Appear tough but surprisingly supple.

... this. And for me, I'm a "confidence" rider. Having faith in the front end shaves time of my races times far more than 80g will. I bought the first specifically for Marathon, where the reliability comes in a bit more due to the duration, but I was so impressed I quickly bought another for the XC race bike.
I've never had an issue with Schwalbe durability as I use the snakeskin ones. I do have a curiosity to try something else this year though, and I do like the look of the mezcals in particular.. look like a really nice tread.. the centre line reminds me of clement pdx's which are my favourite cx tyre
I've had a set of Geax Saguros on my XC bike, which also doubles for road and gravel type rides, for about two years with no issues at all. they went on first time (ghetto tubeless), hold air really well and haven't killed me in the face.
Looking for Morsa 2.8's - Vittoria website lists them but nobody stocks them . .
This is being done on Vittoria tyres. They seem to work on hamsterley’s downhill tracks (skip to about 1:50 for the riding)
Pushed the button on £27.99 Morsa G+ RTNT 2.5 inch and looking forward to seeing how it runs and holds up.
I have a stockpile of gashed tyres that need something more than a patch. Can you sew them?
I do after advice on here a while back. glue edges and push together, sew, rub glue over sown area both sides to fill in holes then put a patch on. Wouldn't necessarily think it would work with huge gashes though
At least an inch long. The Lake District and a special combination of being large and graceful means thus seems to happen to me with good regularity.
I have a High Roller DH, a Slaughter DH and an Aggressor Double Down in the garage with lots of tread and a gash or worse a torn off knob come gash to fix. Must be RRP £150 worth of tyre, so got to be worth a go!
Onza Ibex 2.4 DH - Lightish for a dual ply, about a kilo.
Michelin Rock R2 2.4 - Pretty tough, reasonable weight, choice of soft (usually) front and harder rear compound.
Can sometimes be picked up for okish money.
