I see that travel into and out of Caerphilly Borough is banned from 6pm tomorrow. So that'll make Cwmcarn a bit quieter again... 🤔
Was planning to go there with a mate from Dorset on Thursday, that won't be happening now. Nor will the Specialized demo day!
Yep, I haven’t read anything specifically from Cwmcarn to say they’re closed, but I suspect they will as soon as they catch up to the news, it’s come pretty suddenly.
The rules are a bit vague at the moment, bars and restaurants are saying they haven’t been told to close (so aren’t) but as socialising in-doors has been specifically banned I’d say they should close by default.
Two of our staff live in Caerphilly, they’re allowed to go to work, but also not allowed to leave the area and we’re in a different county so who knows.
Sadly it’s been coming. The great tradition of young people coming from Caerphilly (and other places) into Cardiff for a good old fashioned binge drink started up the moment the pubs were allowed to open, huge bars that are nightclubs in all but name didn’t enforce social distancing inside or out, the Police said they barely had enough Officers to contain the usual public order offences.
Hospital admissions haven’t risen yet and deaths are still 0 most days and occasionally 1-3, but Welsh Gov are saying it’s only a matter of time before it spreads from young people to venerable people and people die.
Sadly based on the younger lads in the office, it seems a lot of young propel just don’t care about Covid anymore and just say “it won’t hurt me”, which is so sad to hear.
Obvious joke is obvious but telling people they may socialise carefully...

This anomaly is already occurring in West Central Scotland. Pubs and clubs are open, socialising at home is not allowed. The justification is that at least folk can be tracked and numbers controlled if they are in licensed premises.

The travel rules specifically allow travel for work if WFH isn't possible.
I live approx a mile from the border, and often cross into Caerphilly when walking the dog. I assume that as before going out for exercise will be permitted, but I haven't seen it made explicit. 🤔
FYI this was posted on the MTB Ranger South Wales Facebook page two days ago:
"Update on the trails at Cwmcarn: They remain open but please don't travel from outside the Caerphilly County Borough to ride. The Police will be visiting the car park and surrounding areas to enforce the Local Lockdown. If you're from within the Borough happy riding but please make sure you adhere to all signage and social distancing etc."
Maybe visit the Forest of Dean instead - not too much difference in travel if coming from Dorset and plenty of riding there. Less of an enormous hill / climb but plenty of elevation to ride 40k and over 1000m of climbing within a few hours.
You could always ride something natural in the Beacons. It’s been dry for a while and the forecast is good.
