Related to the 2010 Liege-Bastogne-Liege "fix".

According to Belgian media, the investigators possess several email exchanges which detail 150,000 euros being transferred from Vinokourov’s Monaco account to that of Kolobnev’s in Switzerland. Vinokourov has always denied the accusation and claimed it was a loan.

It's actually quite good that something is being done; maybe it'll boot Vino out of the sport once and for all

Wishful thinking there. It's barely believable that the likes of Vino and Riis are allowed to manage teams with what's already known about them, so I doubt this'll make much difference.

Willing to bet that if they had a look at Uran's bank account, they'd probably find a similar "loan" made in the closing few km of the Olympic Road Race too...

While I agree with the sentiment about them, fundamentally, Vaughters is the same isn't he except he was never caught or at least, not while racing. Admittedly I would take the view that he's a massively positive thing for pro cycling but it's why Sky's policy of zero tolerance isn't necessarily the right one.

What crazy legs said!

Goes on all the time, getting caught doping didn't get rid of Vino. I doubt that this will!

One of Cookson's pledges was for a fit and proper person test, has there been any progress on that?

Hopefully it won't be in Germany lest they plead the Ecclestone defence.

big deal. It's been going on for a century or more. So what. You let me win this one and I'll let you have another. Seems fair enough to me.
where's the harm?
Can't consider any sporting element to this , it's business not sport.

Vaughters I dislike more as time passes. The manner of the "apologies" when a Garmin rider is found to have doped is just silly "I did it, I'm sorry, it's in the past". It's so non-specific that they almost release exactly the same text. It's not helping the sport.

Everybody watching the finish on the big screen on our campsite right on the route.

not the same as "you let me win this one and I'll pay you thousands". On-the-road deals ("help me put time on my GC rivals and I wont challenge for the stage win") are not the same thing as a massive monetary bribe financed by your wealthy backers.

In the past it was absolutely common practice to pay breakaway companions to let you win or to work for you so that you won. Read the Kelly autobiog and Allan Peipers too for examples.

The value is enormous, 150,000 euro! Doubt Vino could afford that out of wages and bonuses so unless the team paid it the value seems incredibly high, and why? I accept prestige comes into it but that is still a lot.

Vino has some deep pockets and some big backers. This, for example, from inrng...

Incumbent Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev unveiled a list of his party’s candidates for elections in 2012. As well as his daughter there is a collection of celebrities, headed by Alexandr Vinokourov. If this surprises, perhaps it shouldn’t. The Astana team has long been a political vehicle designed not just to present an image of the country abroad but to sprinkle stardust on Nazarbayev.

To riders are on over a million a year before bonuses so 150000 is perfectly possible.
