Last ascent to go, good luck.

Well now I know what Rick-rolling is. Late to the party there. Ian is flying. Did one ascent with him but that descent then bang into another climb is tough. My legs didn't fancy another go. He's got stronger company now for the home straight.

Well that was great!!
Legs feel fresh, and I don't ache and have no real sore spots as so much time was out the saddle!!

Thank you SOOOO much all who gave encouraging words and joined in for as little or much as you could spare... it really helped the time fly by!!!

8950 meteres climbed.. 210 odd KM ridden (well, only half ridden eh!!!) and about 7000 calories burned....

Gonna jump in the shower, drive to the GFs and have some gin and sushi to celebrate!!!

Love you all!!

Congratulations Doc !
apologies for the short support - I overshot the bottom of the hill and couldn't catch you back up, since you were riding pretty much at my sustainable max 😕

... and then I bonked but carried on to the top at 2w/kg - slightly surprised you didn't lap me

Really good following that, a great effort. Couldn't join you on the hill sadly as I'm busy at my parent's house but did give you a few Ride On's throughout so hope that helped!

Seeing the Rick Roll comment means I should have put the Gina G track on the list but didn't know if you would play it straight or on shuffle, would have been funny in the last few Kms but not so much on the first climb!

Hopefully this will have knackered you out for the final race on Tuesday, might have a chance to finish close-ish to you but somehow I doubt it.

Well done to you and all those that gave some supporting km's! It was great to keep popping in to watch and read comments.

I still think we should do the Alpe next week on the hills ride...

Can’t believe how fresh you looked during that whole thing.

I guess that's the key really, pick a pace you can just keep on trundling along at, on and on and on, if you're struggling at any point with the pace you're going too fast. A lot like long distance walking, it's got to be at a dull pace, start to work at it and it's going to end badly.

That said, a lot like long distance walking, I bet tomorrow is a bitch!

amazing effort, you are becoming a cycling machine.

canni ask how many bib shorts did you get through and if only one what type do you use.

I cant stand more than a few hours at the moment. so couldn't contemplate 9 or 10 hours even with the rests.

kirky - might it be your saddle rather than your bibs ?

I did 2hr today "near to" DrP's ride and ma ass is fine; legs are utterly ****ed though as I normally never get above an hour on the turbo or 90ish outside (if i can remember outside)

Kirky...
I only wore one pair of bibs!
Some DHB ones... nothing fancy, but they work well for me...
Askari, I've spent a fortune of saddles and have settled on a specialized power saddle...

This was a long effort, granted, but about 70% of it was spent out of the saddle so soreness want really an issue...

On the question of riding for proper long distances/times... my tip would be to ride at a pace where you don't feel tired or get worn out... then as long as you keep eating amd drinking, you can just go on..
Now, for me, that pace is a pretty reasonable one, but still....if I were to push past it, I'd suffer...
So even if your 'steady pace' is slow... that's fine.. stick with it and you'll get there. Albeit slower!

Once you get to 'know yourself' you can work out if you can maybe push yourself a BIT past that pace for a short time... as long as you can recover (I.e hard up a hill.. but rest and recover coming down..)..

Endurance stuff is about getting fit, but also a strategy amd personal 'awareness ' of what you can do/how you feel...

Well done @DrP - a fantastic effort, you should be really proud.

Was strangely compelling watching your avatar climb - it helped to be able to see you (seamingly not) suffering as you went. Couldn't believe all those gloves though!

Congrats, great effort!

How was it with the trainer on 100%? Or do you run like that anyhow. I guess you’re just utilising higher up the cassette.

@dangeourbrain ...

Me and the GF opted for this instead!!

Tok a leaf from your book of suggestion and had a dirty birger and fries!!
was yummy!!

RE the legs - thighs are a tiny bit sore... and the tendon below my kneecap is a bit tender..probably grinding low cadences for 10 hours!!

It was hard, but helped to get my arse out the saddle! and NOPE..I normally run it at 50% difficulty.. I actually bought a new cassette for this challenge so at least I had a 30 tooth sprocket on the cassette!

Good choice. I mean, sushi is lovely, but it's not exactly "I've done a metric ****ton of exercise here's my reward" food.

Keep an eye on that knee, tendons can be a nuisance - though as only one of the two of us is any sort of Dr I imagine you're at least as capable of issuing that advice as I am!

So here's a little breakdown of the Alpe Du Zwift climb times:
1: 62.37 215w
2: 62.30 216w
3: 61.25 219w
4: 62.10 217w
5: 60.54 220w
6: 61.15 218w
7: 60.47 221w
8: 61.17 220w

Just call me mister consistent!!!

It’s so terrible that you crumbled towards the end.😀

A lot of folks would be happy with any of those times for their one lap best.

I know right!!

But... this vEveresting DID get me thinking...
And the Hells 500 website has got a great calculator on there...
which came up with this...

A lovely short, fairly easy climb/descent local to me... could hapily park the car at the top, snacks and fuel/fluid in there....

Hmm... food for thought eh....

That is not my idea of a nice climb DrP. That's the broadly same as "2 stoops" near here which is really not a nice climb at all.

Now you are intimate with the climb, the corners, the distance etc
Can you video yourself doing a banzai all out, i can taste tin foil, i might be sick in a bucket, i have fallen off,
attempt
Some of the fast boys off here could pace/race you up as an incentive
I would love to see the numbers, and watch the ' race'

Well done! I did try to join you for a bit to say hi and cheer you on.

What an arse on an Apple TV, managed to click on your name eventually, joined was about to say Hi, tried to use the dictate function on the Apple TV, that didn't work, deleted, then found you had disappeared, probably at 100km hr back down the Alps, wife shouted (I'd just done 3 sisters route) and had to go.
