I see non-direct drive trainers are excluded from attempting this, shame

Keep clicking @nick and they relax that rule. https://everesting.cc/virtual-everesting-rules/ --> approved devices allows for smart non-direct drive trainers as long as you choose a climb which doesn't go beyond 7-8%, like Epic KOM (to avoid tyre slip).

Yeah, 0645 I’ll start the ‘route to sky’ route... will do a gentle spin to the foot of the Alpe, then kinda try to warmup a bit as I go up...
I WAS thinking about maybe doing a loop of the jungle first to warm up the legs, but I’m 100% NOT racing up the climb, so I figured I can loosen up as I climb..

I’m probably not going to make it a meetup as I’m wanting to minimise the potential faffage, and want to turn around ASAP after going through the KOM banner!

I think the discord channel is mentioned up above; I’m not 100% au fait with Discord, so likely just going to use the text bit, as well as messaging in Zwift itself..

Will be live streaming the whole thing, which I can then cut down (drastically) later!

Gonna do my food shop today:
Pizza
Sweet Snacks
Bananas
Banana custard..
Milk shakes
Sausage rolls

mmm...

I’m a real data geek, so will probably record my weight after each rep, just to make sure I’m remaining hydrated enough throughout!

11-30t cassette fitted, ready for 100% trainer difficulty....

I can’t think of much more? Maybe a few pairs of bibs?!

@DrP Discord works well and if you set it up on your phone it will coexist with Spotify very neatly - minimum faffage required.

Would it make sense to share some sort of Rota so you have company on every climb?

I will join you on one of the later climbs. No real plans for Sunday and figure the early climbs will be more popular. My only issue will likely be being able to keep up with you!

Would def recommend a change of bibs (maybe turn the youtube stream off for that part!). I think I changed my twice when I did the PRL full.

Anyway able to make you a sweet cup of tea? That was amazing for me when I was getting towards the end but had to let it cool quite a bit.

Couple of tracks added. Couple of track ideas stolen too! Assume the playlist is made public so can download it myself whenever it’s finished?
Should be able to join you for a climb or 2, best of luck.

Playlist is public.. just follow it/grab it...
Thanks for the banging choonz!! (and, erm, "All I need, by Air"!! one of my 'sexy time tracks..but will act as a distractor!!)

So my major issue (not really an issue! more a self made problem!) is that I play spotify through the PC running zwift..so I can hear music AND zwift sounds..I kinda like the sounds of the riding!
Now, when I stream, this causes issues with copyright.

I have found a way to actually only stream certain audio channels, and not others... so i can listen to ALL the sounds through my headphones, adn only stream teh zwift sounds. Thus my channel won't get blacklisted..

Phil's idea of jsut having music AND discord via the phone makes sense... and is MUCH easier..but I'll miss the Zwift sounds!!! Hmm..maybe it won't be that bad!

Thanks for the offers of joining in! I'll be happy for company and chat at any time really!!

I'm pretty au fait at the solo endurance stuff TBH, so a bit of bantz will be fun!

Regarding tunes:

I'm a (very) amateur DJ and I have been uploading some of my recent mixes here:

https://www.mixcloud.com/Strutting-Fox/

High-tempo tunes and some funky stuff there too. There will be the odd user error on there (my last but one mix saw me run out of hands and you can hear that briefly at 34:30 sadly!) but hopefully enjoyable.

Good luck on your attempt!

Did I see you're aiming for about 3w/kg or so somewhere?

Should see you climbing the alpe in about an hour, 15mins or so down? Are you planning on turning round and heading straight back up or doing laps of road to the sky?

Just trying to take a punt at rough lap starts for folks wanting to pitch up and join you so we don't end up joining on one of the steep bits and not actually being able to move 😉

Hoping to join at some point too for a lap, I'd like to hopefully join at the bottom and then you can hopefully pull me up for an under hour effort...it's the only way it will happen!! 😉
I'll try keep up with you best I can.

I plan to message before I start to see where you are on the hill, so I know when to join.

Brian... that's the plan....
Climb.. turn..descend..turn..climb...
The 11 minute (i timed it) descent will give me time to stretch and eat, then back on again!

Last climb I did took me 62 minutes at about 3w/kg.. so give or take the hour.

I SHALL be live streaming, but of course with a 15 off second delay... but will give you the chance to maybe watch and join when I descend to corner 20?! Ready for the turnaround at the red line!

Gonna give the green screen setup a trial on the TDZ ride this eve, at 1900!

Or join you between the top and turn 1 for the free descent miles. Actually yeah, I could do 8000m of descents without turning a pedal 😂.

Gonna give the green screen setup a trial on the TDZ ride this eve, at 1900

Not interested in [leaving me somewhere near the start of] the 18.00 instead are you..?

Green screen doesn't work! my camera angle is too wide..I'd need a green STUDIO!
Oh well...

Sorted out my streaming settings... 1080p at 30fps is the sweet spot...

Unfortunately DrP I am going to have to retire from my support role lap on Sunday. I did the workout with Robbo and the lads this morning and my migraine came back in the hard sets, so I had to bail.
It looks like it comes at high sustained intensity so i am ok below FTP but once i start going for 320w and above for over a minute then it flares up.
I need some sedate pace rides for a while, so sorry I cant help but I'll be watching and wish you the best!

ideally for long endurance rides like this, I won'd push into threshold range EVER, so should just bimble up and down as best as i can.,.

@DrP Obviously you are a lot lighter than me and to keep up with you I will need to be around my FTP of 283w or over, so probably not the best for my health right now, if I was able to do a 210w bimble then it wouldn't be an issue as I seem fine around 200w to 250w.

Enjoy!!

Yeh, I was kinda hoping he’d be warning up on the first leg.

**** no 🤣

His HR looked decent, perhaps a little higher than I’d aim for. I’m presuming Phil is actually dead/a zombie as that’s the only explanation I have for his HR.

@drp is riding strong. It's very busy up there today.
82km and 3350 climbing as I type (=climb 4 in progress). I can see @dangeourbrain alongside him but the alpe's miniaturised rider list makes seeing others a bit hard.

Different version of my last update: Ian is going so strong that no-one will be able to ride with him for long. Except apparently Brian who drops him every time it gets steep. The penultimate ascent (when he gets maximally tired before getting 4w+/kg summit fever!) is looking like the sensible choice for a support ride right now..

Yeah I was having to do 320w just to keep up...hes flying.
Surprised its so busy on there with the Fondo being on today. On the belgian group ride I was on there was 1000 riders!
Was hard to see DrP with everyone around him, Robbo and Brian were with him when I left

Good work DrP. Found the latter part of the climb much easier to pace at 3w/kg. Found myself falling behind on the steep bits-I’m guessing Ian has to stand up and power out of the saddle due to his gearing. Nice way to spend a Sunday morning though. Zwift, cricket, coffee & croissants.

Incredible pace. I don’t think Brian or DrP could see me but could see the messages. I got up there in 62:30 which is 6 mins of my pb just trying to keep up. Such as strong rider. Might give him an extra minute on the handicap on Tuesday!

Oh and every time I get to the last corner of the alpe my playlist seem mad to go to the chain by fleetwood mac. Got the gloves again - still no wheels for me. Think that is my 7th or 8th time up the alpe.

Yeah, the chat is often a bit "bland" in zwift isn't it?!
I can't believe someone complained about it though.

@dangeourbrain yes the “standard” ride chat is bland that’s a good word for it, I think the chat is what helps the rides go quicker.
