Does it exist? Somewhere half way between say a Stans Arch mk3 and Flow mk3, somewhere around 27-28mm internal width, a bit meatier than the Arch but not quite as weighty as the Flow... Easton/Raceface no longer produce the ARC27 annoyingly, DT are either 25 or 30mm internal width etc.
I know that's a very specific request, especially given there isn't a chasm of difference between the Arch and the Flow anyway, but you know... Marginal gains and all that.
Oh, and 29er rim diameter obviously...
WTB i29??
WTB i29??
Heavy, not that strong, and same internal width (29mm) as the Stans Flow...
I've since found that the Spank Spike Race 33 rim is actually 33mm external width, not internal as I thought, and is in fact 28mm internally and a little lighter than the Stans Flow...
Could be a contender!
Any other ideas?
You've not mentioned budget but if there isn't one, I've always found lightbicycle have something to fill most gaps. What I also really like about them, is that they do sealed rim beds on request.
I have i29, I reckon they were made by kraft.
Not tried one but the Chromag Phase30 good weight.
The Spank 350 rims build into nice set of wheels, I do like ibis rims but they are wider at 34mm internal but being offset build a really nice wheel with DT hubs
Is there really much difference in how the tyre sits etc between 28mm and 30mm?
Other than the width it sounds like you’re describing the XM481.
Spank Spike Race 33
Was going to suggest these as they are the width you seek and I’ve had no problems with mine other than working out what their ++ERD was all about. Not super light but not too hefty either. Admittedly a big part of choosing them was CRC knocking them out cheap but I think they are good rims.
If you want something as light and strong as an ARC, you could easily fashion something a little sturdier from cardboard.
Surely weights got to be a consideration too, why rule out a rim as 2mm too wide if it's lighter?
If so, the answers DT!!! 😉
DT EX511 for me.

Made me chuckle.
+1 for just get XM481s
30mm front, 25mm rear, best of both worlds and guaranteed to bring the trails alive.
just get XM481s
Except they're only 2g lighter than a Flow MK3.
They won't crack like a Stans rim though.

Any require washers.
Flow Mk3 is my trail rim.
The washers are included in the weight, come with the rim, and are part of the reason they don't crack like Stans do.

Brilliant rims
Funny thing is stans don't crack if you build them to the appropriate tensions, but no one use tension metres so they dont know!
+2 XM481
I bought a few spank spike race 33 when they were going cheap at crc, my mate got some too, great rim so far, stronger than the arc 30 and i29. Considering the weight and clearance price it's my best buy this year.
what qwerty said, in a DT rim
