I have a daughter, who is very keen on MTB'ing. She loves her Frog Bike, but would like a bike like her dads! 🙂

I have sourced a Cannondale Trail in size XS, and that will fit in a few centimeters time. Problem is, the cranks are 170 mm, which is far too long for her.

I could buy SRAM NX 155 mm's but Ideally I would like something a little bit shorter. Anybody see any reason not to buy some Frog 146 or 140 and bang them on there? Square taper, but that's what's on the bike at the moment.

thoughts?

Cut them down. I’ve just cut a set of truvativ from 165 to 125. Made a massive difference.

I will not be cutting longer cranks down.

If I do that myself, it will be a catastrophe waiting to happen.

Thorn (SJS cycles) come in 150 and I think Isla Bikes used to sell parts?

These go down to 130. That was my second choice if the modifIcations didn’t work...

Highpath Enigneering can do crank shortening. Though probably cheaper just to buy some new cranks.

I put trailcraft cranks on my lads bike. Must of been feeling flush at the time 😂

Thing is, I live in Denmark so if I had to have something custom made it would be pretty expensive.

Those HUPs seems like a good shout!

+1 for thorns from SJS. Decent cranks at a reasonable price. Run a un55 bb and it will be bombproof for years.

If you do a search I matched up the shorter cranks Orbea use on their MX20 on Aliexpress pretty recently, that's another option. They're 5 arm 110bcd though so 35t minimum, 104bcd is better.

vpace use the same samox cranks as trailcraft. likely cheaper out of germany rather than the us too.

I used Trek Dialled cranks which have drillings for 120 and 140mm lengths, pretty cheap too.

Agree about the HUP cranks...going well for mine. Although, now on a new bike with 170mm cranks and annoyingly they don't appear to be too long!

Wow, those Dialed Cranks are cheap! Too bad they are sold out everywhere.

I'd rather not pay a small fortune if possible, so those HUP still tempt a lot.

Those Tune are cool too, shame that the 3 min 9 sec are so short.
