Somewhat contrary to the other thread about frustrating jobs, and also my previous thread about 'what the hell am I doing wrong with tubeless'...
Having had a bloody nightmare this year with tubeless, there is now nothing more satisfying than the multiple 'SNAP' of a tubeless tire seating itself on the rim using only a track pump. Man, that is such a sweet, satisfying and positive-feedbacky sound.

Now, tomorrow I am going to do my first strip and rebuild of a pair of Rockshox forks. I may be adding to the other thread very soon 🙂
Rockshox fork servicing is quite satisfying, but agreed on good tyres going up first time tubeless.
Having tackled everything possible on a bike, mainly due to the I reckon I can do that attitude and no money, I had a very pleasant one this weekend. It was getting trp cable disc brake working great, new pads and swappable with two different sets of wheels with no adjustments on my new ( to me.) gravel bike.

Last week at Cannock bumped into a lad whose indexing was out. Routing the mech cable the proper way around the bolt* and sorting it so he could get on his way again.
*Shop had ‘serviced’ it the week before...
The squish of a a freshly serviced fork is a marvellous thing.
I can never decide if its frustratng or great but that feeling when you go into the bike shed and all your bikes are in perfect condition, everything serviced within time limits and even the chains are well lubed so nothing to do but go out and ride.
For actual servicing forks is good as is boiling up the chains in wax

I have never experienced this so will have to take your word on it...

Last time I was at Cannock I came across a chap with a broken chain at the bottom on the Monkey. Being the nice chap I am, I helped him get it working and gave him a powerlink to get him back on the trail. I also gave him my email address so he could pop me a couple of quid over later to cover the cost of the powerlink - something I always do now because I give away 3 for every 1 I use myself! The ****er never paid me for it... first time I've experienced this too 🙁

Agreed, for once in my life I’ve got the right tools, and take the right amount of time and more importantly understand how and why you do each stage.
I wouldn’t say it’s a doddle yet, but panic levels remain remarkably low.
I just love the first ride after a full home-service: when you know that everything is clean; all the creaks sorts; all the moving parts greased or oiled; even the seat post removed and re-greased.
I was the same as a young man after I had changed the fluids on my car, tightened the fan belt, and washed it so it gleamed.

This, absolutely. My XC bike has been groaning for the last few weeks, desperate for it's Spring service and, at last, it's getting it. Roll on the weekend...once the bearings are done 🙂

One more to chuck in - doing a tubeless conversion for a friend who declared it "impossible - I've tried for hours" in less than 15 minutes while they look on in awe. Some can be an arse, but when they come good, you feel like a god amongst men.
Just recently had a creaking rear hub I thought was shagged and obsolete. Bought a new set of wheels but had a day for last ditch attempt at stopping the noise. Stripped the hub, bearings felt rough to the point of taking the freehub off and all bearing individually felt fine. Degreased and regreased all the pawls and springs and put back together, overcoming a knackered axle thread in the process.... All silent. £300 saved. Aaaaah.

What type do you use? I don't typically carry these but after nearly resorting to a tube on Sunday (in the end, two cans of CO2 got me home!) I'm interested in other options...
giving the road bike a bit of a spring once over, thought i'd re-grease the headset bearings.... top came out fine but the bottom inner race decided to come out on it's own followed by 30 tiny ball bearings and a cage. Very satisfying rebuilding it was great that the were nice an smooth when i finished 🙂
When you've been nursing a rear mech with sloppy pivots and a gunked up cable then you finally swap it out and it's solo quick to set up! ☺️
Rear mech setting up is lovely when it clicks in and everything works. Wrapping bar tape is also quite enjoyable.
