Looking for a 1 1/8th carbon disc fork for the Roadrat - this is super cheap
is it suicide, or have people used these and founf them OK?
I've bought cheap carbon bars before .... and they have been pretty good. I bought 2 sets with the idea of destructively testing one set but once I had them and trimmed the ends I was pretty convinced they were OK..
Since then they have been through LOTS of big wipeouts... so I was maybe lucky?
However ... I think one issue is that quality control isn't there and there are lots of layers in the process (different production lines etc. that ultimately lead to the same seller)... you might get a good set or a bad set ??
At that price might be nice to stick on my commuter.... which has some crap coil forks on....
Not that exact model, but I used similarly cheap carbon forks over the winter and had no issues.
Your choice. I was prepared to take a gamble, and it paid off.
I have a similar set in the shed that I used for a while but wanted more clearance (wouldn't take more than 28mm). Also, 160mm rotor was rubbing slightly which was concerning. Don't think I'll be using that set again but am close to buying similar
I bought some Tooseek ones off eBay recently - found a -20% discount code too - they are pretty light and absolutely solid - better than some 'branded' forks I've had previously. Whilst there are some occasional horror-stories of dodgy Chinese carbon stuff, I've never had a problem if you avoid the obvious fakes, particularly as they make 99.9% of the bikes and forks, regardless of the guff some bike companies peddle
Tooseek are the ones I'm looking at - good to know
Be very careful what you buy - when I was looking for a 1.125 carbon disc fork, most would only take a 28mm tyre.
The best one is the Whisky no 7, but at £350, you've got to really want it.
