So my son has one of these:

bought by his mum, but when I first looked they seemed to be going for less than £10 on ebay - though not available there now. I tried it out and was quite impressed - more than adequate for normal on road riding. Would like something similar - decent brightness and easy mounting (that has a rubber strap and goes on and off in seconds) and cheap. Any recommendations?
How bright do you need?
I’m running a Moon Meteor Vortex and a Moon Meteor Auto X Pro on the front of my road bike for commuting. Paid £28 for the Vortex and about £20 for the auto x. Vortex is max 600 lumens whilst the auto x is 400 lumens. Both plenty bright for unlit towpaths.
The Vortex has a good ‘pulse’ function where it’s always lit but then flashes brighter through it. I tend to run that in pulse and the other on its dimmest solid setting on road - then both on solid lit on the dark cycle path / towpath that’s on my commute.
Having done a quick search Halfords are the cheapest I can find and there’s only a fiver difference in cost now. The Vortex is definitely a nicer light.
Can't load the Maxmatcher's site, but don't Planet X have something like you describe? (recall from a thread the other day)

My Evans FWE front light is half way through its third winter of all condition daily commuting and has been perfect throughout. Needs charging a bit more regularly now so I've just bought another. I can't remember the lumens but I general the FWE stuff seems great value for money.
I've just got one of these. Very cheap with a rubber strap. Rechargable in a couple of hours. Amazingly bright. Too bright when the lense is in fully opening position. I have adjusted the lense angle so it does not dazzle other road users. Mount is rubber and adequate, although a bit ropey, although it has stayed put and seems durable enough. Cheap as chips. I have not had it long though.
I have not gone offroad on mine yet. I've bumped up and down curbs fine though.
I bought this - Biking MAX 2000LM Bike Light 2 XML-T6 LED Headlight Built-in 6000mAh Rechargeable Battery + 2 Handlebar Mount Bicycle Light from here - https://gb.lightmalls.com/led-bicycle-lights?p=1 (sorry, the link function wasn't working for me)
for less than £20. Took about 10 days to arrive and has been brilliant for this winter. They've got hundreds to choose from right down to like £5 and then you add the battery pack (also available from them). Have a browse.
Thanks trumpton - that's about the price I was looking for, and I'd seen those and wondered if they were any good. Maybe brighter and more bulky than I was after, but would be good multi purpose with that many lumens.
I hate to say it but I used mine again yesterday and the rubber bracket did not seem that good.
I have yet to use it on the wider part of the bar as I need to remove the computer mount, but on the narrow part it moved a bit as I couldn't get a very tight fit. I am going to move it to a wider part of the bar then shim the bar with an inner tube until the bracket is very tight - that should sort it. It is not as bright as the pic makes out, but is still very bright. The bezzle turns ajusting the feild of view so it does not dazzle drivers. Also has a low setting, without a low flash though. On bright it has constant and flashing.
The bezel on the front causes it to rattle a bit too. Also has two bits of plastic on the mount that stick out and may clash with your stem. I think its the battery.
