How much is it?
The invoice says 0%, a Google throws up all different numbers and stuff about royal decrees.

You don't have to be vat to ride an ebike, they're for healthy people too.

If you are claiming for a business I *think* there are HMRC rules on it as capital / plant / equipment which can be used to reduce tax and I *think* is higher than VAT would be anyway.

Have you bought from outside UK or from a small business who is not VAT registered?

Because, as your link shows, some items are reduced (5%) or Zero VAT rated.

Because someone in government is good friends with the md of bafang and purely coincidentally is borrowing their car and house in Mauritius for a few months?

That's what you would think but the invoice say 0% so I'm investigating.
6% is a number that comes up.

There is VAT on eBikes @20%. The only reason it would be zero is if the seller isn't VAT registered or it was Secondhand under the vat difference scheme, but they'd have to be selling it to you at the price they paid for it.

and they might come under the same category as "eg. children’s car seats and home energy" or "most food and children’s clothes" 🤔😂

Are you mixing up VAT and Import Duty?

Sweet - 170mm F&R should get you up any intervening kerbs, too !  Does that get you to VAT exemption ?

Was it bought personally or by your business, for work use?

I paid for it and we are just putting it through the books. We've got to the vat claim bit and no idea what to put in.
I'll chase the shop for a vat invoice.

We are vat registered and I'm assuming these people are as well.

An operation that size would have to be - their turnover would be well over the VAT threshold.

Although if it was supplied to you as an individual, the business cannot claim any vat back, even if it were identified on the invoice. It hasn't been supplied to the business, end of discussion.

Secondly, if there's vat shown at the 0% rate on the invoice, there's no vat there to be able to claim. It probably also means that the bike isn't brand new, if it were new then the vat amount should be obvious. Odd. Another customer's rejection?

You can claim back the VAT of course. I am guessing the shop just lazily charged you without vat as that's the quickest way to enter the sale. I had to correct such an invoice one of my staff entered today. It was only £27 mind not an ebike.

Having trawled through all my emails I’ve found a sales receipt which luckily shows the vat rather than the 0% on the invoice.
Problem sorted.

Is the bike for personal use or business use?

And if it is for business use why didn’t you use the business bank account to purchase ?
