I'm a fan of using vaseline to help mount my Conti GP5000 TLs, put a tiny bit around the bead and in the hooks for the tire and it inflates beautifully with a hand pump. Works better than soapy water in my experience.
Some people seem to think it can degrade the tire and sealant (if latex based, I use orange seal endurance), personally I think it's fine, is it?
I'd say you are safe, it is gentle enough to use in lip balm so I cant see it eating away at rubber.
Just wait until you have to brake hard, and the tyre rotates on the rim and you keep going 😆
NB this probably won't happen, but please video yourself just in case.
Vaseline degrades condoms (latex), so you shouldn't use it for any activity that needs a condom.
It can also degrade natural rubber, but I can't imagine a smidge on your rim is going to hurt (fnarr).
Don't use soapy wster, use watery soap. 😉
I'd go with a hard* nope.
Mineral oils (and vaseline) degrade latex (sealent, rubber in tyres), you don't need to be a materials scientist to know that, remember sex ed?
Use something silicone or PEG based.
*subtle pun intended.
[dammit, beaten** to it by 17 minutes as I had the tab open but got sidetracked by paper canoes]
**fnarr fnarr
Lol..
Wonder if it makes it easier for the tire to unmount too, there soapy water could be better as it dries up.. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Actually vaseline didnt make it unseat from the rim bed more easily.
A water based lubricant is the way to go. It does lead to some awkward conversations as to why you have sex lube in your workshop.
I used the silicone spray I normally use on my stanchions the other day- worked really well
Shampoo for the win.
I use a silicone spray readily available from Screwfix.
