You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I'm lucky enough to be going to visit the in-laws in Vancouver next week, for three weeks, and I've somehow managed to convince my wife that taking my bike will be a good idea, so I'll be able to slope off now and then for a quick ride.
Last year we went with a few friends, me and a riding buddy managed to wangle some bikes here and there to ride Fromme and had a couple of days in Whistler, but that's the extent of my experience of the place.
I'll only have the BFe, but if anyone fancies showing me around a few places and getting a beer then I'd be very grateful. Essentially, I don't want to go riding on my own, end up too deep and nailing myself.
If not, can anyone recommend a good guide book or app or map pack or something I could use to get a rough idea of the trails before I ride them.

Oh, I'll be over on the island, between Duncan and Victoria, for a few days next week too, if anyone has any knowledge they fancy sharing?
Everything will be on Trailforks (a branch of pinkbike). Download the app and away you go. Also obsession bikes just by the sea bus terminal on the North shore will be able to help. Start easy and work up. Blues should be good for most.
If you can wrangle a day trip to Squamish I'd recommend it. Ruperts for slabs, half nelson for jumps and powerhouse plunge for tech would be a full day.
Happy to show you around Whistler for a bit if you make it up this far.
I'll not be about but the riding in Squamish is top notch too. More flowly in general than Whistler and a bit closer for you.
Just planning a holiday there next year, to make up for all the riding I didn't manage when I bloody lived there!
Two days Fromme, Two days Seymour, 1 day Squamish and 1 day Whistler Valley I think 😀
Cheers guys. I thought about using the trail forks app but I won't have data on my phone. Have either of you seen a copy of that Locals Guide to the North Shore by Wade Simmons? Any good?
I might be able to sneak up to Squamish, but I think Whistler might be out this year. Loved riding the valley trails last year though, so much better than the park!

Can't say I have I'm afraid. TrailForks can download the maps in advance, so only uses gps - no data.
Ah, didn't realise you could download maps, that's a bonus.
Yeah, I had the book and the waterproof maps. Wouldn't get the book unless you want a souvenir, just get the map for Seymour and the map for Fromme (I'd suggest Cypress too but I found it a pain to get to without a car and I think it's the more confusing mountain to navigate with a lot of development going on on the lower slopes).
What trails did you ride last time?
I'll be able to drive myself about so access to places shouldn't be an issue.
Last time we did a morning on Fromme and I think we rode 7th Secret, Pipeline, Upper/Lower Oilcan and maybe a couple of others I forget.
At Whistler we had a big day in the park, including Top of the World and finishing on Ride Don't Slide. Then on the second day we did a bit in the valley, Golden Boner, Microclimate (absolute favourite), High Society, Yoda's and Danimal.
For South Island have a look at simbs.com
Hartland, Harborview and Broom Hill are great places to ride - and I think i got my trail book at http://www.sookemountaincycle.com. There's also a good Trek Bike Store in Victoria.
I was staying in Victoria and rode out to Sooke and Harborview on the Galloping Goose Regional Trail.
