I have a small van (nissan nv200) and want to take it on the eurotunnel.Their limit is 3m of space which it sounds like i am definitely over.i only have my 2 bikes and clothes no new goods.I don't want to go on the freight if i can avoid it.What are my chances of turning up prebooked and getting on?anyadvice much appreciated. Thanks Ben
I always do and I've got a whacking great 14m2 Citroen relay 😀
thanks for that pepper i will book it tonight,if i have any problems it's your fault 😯
Taken a Vito panel van on with no problems too
You'll be fine, I've only gone freight once and that was because an RTC on the M25 had caused just about everyone to be running 2 hours late. I think their website asks about height limits. Pretty sure it's 1.8m or something. Anything over that and they like to know but still fit in with the cars
I have broad shoulders 😀
I don't understand it as if I take my camper it's way bigger than my van but we end up in the same large vehicle compartment at the front of the train.
Make sure you drive down the normal right hand side to line up, not the freight side...
Where did you get the "3 metres of space" limit from ?
A VW Golf is 4.2 metres long.
It's the space inside the vehicle, boot space, although my Kia Sedona has more boot space than that!
I've done eurotunnel loads of times in an empty panel Van and van with seats etc (Both VW T4) and the ferries too.
No problems at all, always booked on as a "high car" and put in the correct dimensions.
Have maybe done it 30 times and never had any problems.
We went freight last year with a mid sized transit after consulting the size limits but were quite peeved when seeing all the other vans and huge campers heading to the regular train.
The volume limit they mention relates to amount of stuff you are carrying inside. Think of the contents compressed down to a cube. That amount, not the size it takes up. They're mainly thinking of commercial goods anyway. A van with a load of bike stuff is fine, so long as it doesn't look like commercial goods.
We had a Citroen Dispatch. I booked it at under 1.85 I think, but turned out it was a little higher but no problem. That just affects whether you go on the high vehicle carriages or the double deckers for cars. They stopped us to check in the back of the van, opened up, "oh bikes", shut it instantly and all okay.
Freight would be a pain probably as I guess they have less priority when there are delays. Shouldn't need freight. They stick big coaches on the passenger trains after all.
thanks again everyone,i can tell the wife to stop worrying now.
