You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Recent on-one mailing has piqued my interest in the world of 'cheap' titanium hardtails as a needless replacement/upgrade for a 5-year old original 456.
Has anyone ridden both and care to comment on one or the other? Ti 456 starts out cheaper, but need for funky headset and fat seatpost immediately bump up cost compared to easy parts swap on Van Nic.
Already immune to on-one stigma, so no issues there.
Decisions, decisions . . . . .
Easy choice:
😉
My turn to be cheeky back:
Is that a snappy rear triangle model? Knock a few hundred off and it's a maybe. Otherwise, it's only 50 quid more for a new one with a warranty.
Ah now that is cheeky.
But the new ones are not made in USA by girlie welders.
The brace added later was an hideous thing, and not needed.
CHB, ygm.
Totally agree with the added brace....Hideous....I have a 16in and i have thrown it down the worst of our Lake District rock and it reminds me why i have a ti frame!
Awsome. 😛
Dan, your email ended up in my Spam folder, so thanks for the heads up.
oh...then I saw how much you were offering, and thought maybe Outlook is smarter than I give it credit for.
Get real matey!
😉
[£550 for those are are curious/nosey]
I have both, a steel 456 and a Lynskey 456Ti.
Yes its worth it, almost a kilo saved and far, far comfier. Really comes good on fast bouncy/rooty going.
£550 for a Ti456 is a steal.

I'm pretty sure that's not what it's going for, just what was offered! 😀
@CHB - My god, you sound like a right piece of work, you actually replied to his thread in regards to selling a Ti456, not offering any real life opinion of what they are like to ride hence the thread title.
🙄
I'm pretty sure the head angles on the Van Nicks are steep as they were never really designed for true off road unlike other examples of Ti ht frames.
Depends what build your going for, i.e. ss/geared, rigid forked & 100mm- then go Van Nick, or geared big fork and heavy weight kit then 456.
TBh, I would'nt run gears on an On-one as they sucky sucky on the chain.
(Chainrings were newish at the time aswell so no real chainring wear apparent).

That's one of the most ridiculous comments I've yet read on STW. Well done.
£550 vs £799 for brand new with warranty? Didn't seem too insulting. Anyhoo, whatever happened to "If you're not embaressed with an offer, you're offering too high?"
Problem solved - nipped out to Rotherham and bought a Ti456 earlier. Next week's project is building the bloody thing.
For what it's worth, Mamtor and 456 looked superficially similar, maybe a bit more bling on the Van Nic vs more understated looks on the on-one.
Also had a feel of the carbon 456, wow that thing's light (and so, so ugly).
