A dusty track preview by Goldstone and the course looks great. I’ve crocked my knee so I’ll be watching both male and females. Should be a great day of racing.

big news from today is Pierron crashed and broke his collarbone. Bruni in 3rd will be looking to get a win and close the gap on Goldstone who qualified first and looks the man to beat this season.

shame Hart missed qualies and Wilson was some way back by Charlie Hatton is in there as is Williams

the less said about my fantasy team the better

...and we saw Iles cartwheel after hitting a rock at high speed in Q1. He was flat on his back for a while as the paramedics checked him out and said he'd lost air and hurt his balls! He managed to walk away in the end. But he was properly gutted.

He DNS Q2 and there was a big list of DNFs too...and I can see why. The track is ****ing brutal.

Amazing how many top riders aren't going through to finals.

Awesome job by Nathan DeVaux in juniors. There was an article about him on here a few years ago.

Qualified in 18th.

just jumped onto instagram to look at that crash and you are right, Isles was lucky to walk away relatively unscathed from that.

The weather has been saying it's going to piss it down all week but now it looks like it's going to be a few showers at the most.

It's going to be warm so me and the son are just going to bring ponchos in case of emergencies.  The wellies are on stand by but if looks like it's clear in the morning then we might just leave them in the car.

Although if the heavens do open we might end up regretting it...

Does anyone know if we're getting Q2 on youtube or have they given up with that?

In the Alps, when the storms come it's generally in the afternoon.

Today in Piemont it was clear skies this morning and the sky got murkier and murkier as the day went on. Didn't train today, but Saturday last week was the same and we had massive, moody thunderstorms accompanied by hail.

There's a red weather warning for all of Piemont thus Saturday. Thunderstorms in the afternoon. Can't see why it would be much different in western Trentino.

It’s crazy how compelling qualifying has become and how it’s not being broadcast  either live or even as a replay.

They just don’t know what they’re doing. I’d love to see a proper interview with Chris Ball - who, back in the day, was a proper racer. How he’s overseen this mess is a mystery!

Edit: the racing is better than ever imho but the coverage, commentary and TV deal is the mess.

I heard that if it's a joint event with the XC they don't have the resources to do it , don't know if it's true but sounds feasible.

they don't have the resources to do it

It's a shame they aren't partnered up with one of the biggest media companies in the world to do the coverage...

Forecast is currently light rain not until 2pm. If that eventuates it could make for an interesting finish!

At least it should be cooler today.

They should just charge more for to the privilege of watching the broadcast.

Theyve just abruptly stopped broadcasting the male junior race on YouTube and apparently it'll be shown later.

It's an absolute joke.

Women’s race was fantastic. Shame Tahnee had (an odd?) slow crash and ended last. Good to see Holl have some really competition this year

My stream of choice went down ages ago and won't come back. Ball to this, I'm going out.

Wasn't planning to watch it but it was playing when we turned on so we watch Thibault Daprela. Didn't even realise until he crossed the line that he'd lost his chain. Jaw dropping

It's like he's riding a slightly different version of the track. Compelling racing nonetheless.

Edit: just looking on the stream and they've got coverage of the junior women up there.

I have no personality to speak of but I have attached a horn to my chainsaw so...

Anyway, since he's now on the podium I wonder if mountain biking is going to have a conversation about Daprela.  I don't think the elephant in the room is going anywhere.

There's some (afaik) unspecified allegations about inappropriate behaviour  I think.

He left Commencal and then left Canyon.  During that period there was a lot of chat in French downhill circles that it was because he sexually assaulted someone.  Daprela then said it was actually a smear campaign against him because someone didn't want him riding at Canyon.

https://www.vojomag.com/news/thibaut-daprela-sexprime-on-a-clairement-essaye-de-me-detruire/

So either a rapist just podiumed and everyone was smiling and hugging him for the photos.  Or someone in the paddock would accuse a rider of being a rapist just because they didn't want them riding for a mountain bike team.

Either way it's really not a good look, to put it mildly. Rapists are bad.  False accusations of rape for business purposes are also bad.

But I get the impression enough time has passed (it's been more than a year afterall) and everyone would just prefer if we pretended the whole thing never happened.

Other than the commentator describing him as 'The man who won't take no for an answer' during a race run, of course.
