Had a good look on Google and OS but can't seem to find a decent descent of these hills. Could go up behind Gwryd Hotel, or behind the slate quarries but can't work out a workable descent. The map shows a lovely path down the ridge down to Capel Curig, but I can't see owt on the ground on Google maps.....

Anyone been up there with a bike?

Looks proper cheeky to me. TBH, I'd stay well clear and thus avoid conflict.

What I decide to do is my decision. You are free to make yours. There are legal bridleways on Yr Wyddfa just across the valley that are already fraught with access issues.

I have walked and climbed in the area for a long time. Bits of your proposed route would make superb riding but other parts, esp the flatter areas are heather and bog.

Across the tops from devils kitchen towards Capel will be bloody awful.
The decent from y garn could be fun and from the back of the glyderau down could be good but I'm unconvinced that the pain of getting to either of the descents would be worth it. It is shit walking up from the kitchen without contemplating pushing a bike (no chance of riding that bit)

Walked directly to Y Garn once from the Llanberis side. Hideous slog.

Having walked up there loads I don't ever recall any decent bits for riding. It's all very bitty, boulder fields, boggy, heather, grassy. None of it screams ride me

I’ve run up there in the past, either big sections of bog or hedonism rocky weird rock stuff which makes even running not fun let alone a bike

Im sure it will be on Strava heat map, doesn’t mean it’s fun !

Well it is a long time ago but I remember it as being rather pointless. Much pushing etc and no flow. Mind you it was mid 80's and I seem to think we had even beaten the Cranes to this bit of the Welsh 3000s. Quite possible that the Dawes Ranger wasn't up to stuff that a modern bike is. Go 'tother side of the A5 if I were you.

Carneddau might be more fruitful, if you don't know it already?

I don't myself, but did ride up to Foel Grach from the sea (a reasonable pull) a couple of years back, but was only able to find a very average descent down to Cwm Eigau. Sure there's loads better rockier stuff up there descending A5 direction.

Massive loop, though, if you went up and over like that. Prob be better to make one-way arrangements, or carry up from the S side.

Hey Garry.
Interesting info. I think I must have done Foel Grach as part of an insanely exhausting trip last winter. Gory details here.

TLDR; I couldn't find any good descent so if you ever find something that fits your description then let me know

Sure there’s loads better rockier stuff up there descending A5 direction.

PS. Steered clear of Carneddau today and did Snowdon a couple of times instead!
