as in the title im running a ust tyre on a ust rim . Does not need sealant to set up .
But if I get a puncture there wont be anything to plug the hole right?
I'm thinking rather than keeping both tyres topped up with sealant what I'll do is carry an aldi puncture sealant spray thing that fixes to the valve and spray some in if any punctures arise ?
Am I missing something or is this a plan ?

I can't see why that wouldn't work. But half the benefit of tubeless is that you don't even notice the little thorn punctures as they seal immediately. Your method is a kind of halfway house in that you have to stop and deal with the puncture.
Sounds OK - I'd prob just take a spare tube rather than aldi-ize my tyre. Depends where you're riding - some spots can be really bad for thorns, other places they're rare.
I used to use UST back in the day of 819 rims and it definitely worked better with sealant as a general principle - not just as a small puncture sealant, it seemed to seal the bead better and eliminate burpage.
It's *a* plan, and will likely work fine, but the beauty of having sealant in there is it should seal while you're riding, for anything small you might not even notice a pressure loss.

Ask Caroline Alexander what her thoughts on riding UST tyres without sealant are. A scoop of sealant won't be noticeable, using a spraycan sealant will be annoying surely?
Won't the foam basically wreck the tyre?
Where as a bit of latex sealant seals the little holes, anchovies are probably as quick to repair a bigger hole and worst comes to the worst a spare tube and a mini pump is still probably lighter and easier than an aerosol can to lug about...

That's a Kwik-fit myth iirc, it's just a ball-ache to clean back off again.
I'd just run sealant myself. Will fix some issues before you know about them, and (depending on the setup) you might need to do a lot less topping up than you think
Don't put too much trust in the repair spray kit.
I had a puncture on Sunday and that was all I carried with me. Unfortunately the connection between the press top and the nozzle in the can was not close enough so however hard I pressed nothing would come out.
5 mile walk home, lesson learned...
I'd just put sealant in. I've used that exact setup. You don't need as much sealant as a tubeless ready tyre and it lasts ages since there's so little leakage of air.
I still put sealant in my UST tyres. And carry a pump. And a tube, lol
You're missing te point. Sealant in the tyres, you probably won't even notice getting a puncture.

Why wouldn't you add latex solution in the first place? Otherwise, yes its tubeless, but you'll still have to deal with the puncture to keep riding.
Defeats the main purpose of going tubeless otherwise.
aldi cans work around 50% of the time in my experience with tubes and are also useful with tubeless. Be aware tho it probably won't get it up to the right pressure.
As others have said - get some sealant in there
When I got my last bike it came ready set up with tubeless. Ran it for 3 months before I discovered it had no sealant so it is possible if there aren't any thorns where you ride (I ride Peaks)
