Looking for a really low gear on my road bike I bought a 36 t cassette to replace the 32 as I had read on the SRAM site my derailleur would cope. However I had misread this and 36 only applies to the CX single ring Rival mech. I had adjusted the B screw until it worked ok but it now seems to have bent the B screw due to the angle of the mech making changes on the bigger cogs impossible.
Anyway I can make this work without buying the much more expensive CX mech which apparently works with single ring only anyway?
I looked at the Lindarets stuff but they say they work with Shimano only.
I don't understand, I have Rival HRD22 with a 36 cassette which is ran with a compact.
My mech works fine.
Mine did at first but now won't play!
Just buy a SRAM MTB Mech. Same pull ratio and allows you to run larger cassettes. I ran an X9 on a Apex 10spd setup in order to run an 11-36 in a 2x10 setup.
I think Lindarets do an adapter which might allow you to use a bigger cassette - it might be Shimano only though
Rival in Medium cage goes to 32T, Long cage to 42T. I suspect FOG's is medium, Soccades's is large. PS. I have a medium which is 75mm centre-to-centre on the jockey wheels. So not tried bigger than 32T
Do you need an 11spd sram mtb mech for it to work or will 10 do?
And has anybody tried the Lindarets with sram mechs?
New B screw or stronger ,longer alternative? Cheapest option, worth a try surely.
My Apex medium mech works fine with a 36tooth and compact.
Well, I have tried nick1962's suggestion and replaced the bent B screw with a stainless item of the same thread. All is back to nice smooth shifting though getting the bent screw out of the mech thread was a pain.
However I am still puzzled as to why the original B screw bent but I shall keep a very close eye on it in future.
