Expensive and not very effective, but it'll be adequate.

I use it most of the time, works a treat if in habit of cleaning chain after every ride, which i do this time of yr when using wet lube. If its a few rides worth of crud then needs proper degreaser.

Depends on what you lube your chain with as to whether it's any good (i'm using wax based lube, and our industrial grade parts washer degreaser won't look at it, whilst white spirit moves it easily), no harm in trying it.

Or, far less faff and a bit cheaper too, keep an old towel for chain wiping duties, quick spray of gt85 on the towel, wipe all the shit off whilst rotating cranks back, then re-apply rock n roll extreme lube, a lube that doesn't attract all the detritus that wet lubes do.

Chain cleaners are yet another solution to a problem that doesn't exist.

TBH it won't be as effective as even a little squirt of washing up liquid and some warm water in the chain cleaner.

Tip:
I use an empty bottle of Muc-off filled with a diluted solution of this, spray it on the all the drivetrain and chain and clean the rest of the bike, then run the chain cleaner last containing washing up liquid and warm water mixed, works really really well.

Do you want to fully degrease the chain and thus have stripped out the factory internal lube (best stuff your chain will have, though maybe you're looking to apply Squirt which is nearly as good 😉 ), or is this for regular post muddy ride clean?

Personally, I'd only degrease prior to applying Squirt and that's it. After that the chain just gets a wash and wipe. Clean again and the Squirt will still be inside the chain. The Squirt will be helping it stay clean outside anyway as you don't have oil outside sucking in crud.

And stop using wet lube. Unless you are riding through rivers or on the road. Dry lube is actually designed to be used in wet conditions.

The following ->

* 4 litres of white spirit
* 2 plastic milk bottles
* A funnel
* Coffee filters
* Rock'n'roll lube

When dirty, take chain off, stick in bottle A, top up with spirit. Shake, leave, Shake again.

Pour dirty spirit into bottle B. Wash chain off in sink with hot water only.

Dry chain - e.g. oven on low heat. Lube up with rock'n'roll.

Refit chain

Clean funnel, insert filters, pour dirty spirit through filter into the spirit container.

Price about £4 a year.

Use the expensive cleaner for the bike. Also, Sh1t shifter is better than Muc off.

I always try and filter degreaser after use,pass through kitchen paper filter via a funnel. A garage i worked in as a teenager used this fappin' big parts washer and that uesd to filter the degreasing stuff. It will last you ages this way (comes out the filter black no lumps of junk). The DNA Yorkshire dad and Scottish mum runs deep here!.
