ok, so i have a tapered 1 1/8th > 1 1/4 headtube on my giant, and i want to run a standard straight steerer fork.
i have brought a reducer shim for the lower end of the headtube, but just thought...the bearings wont fit into the shim! Any way around this? or am i screwed?!!
any help gratefully recieved!
Standard taper is 1 1/8" top and 1.5" at the bottom, not 1 1/4. If the Giant is 1 1/4 then that'll be your problem.
yep it is 1 1/4 at the bottom, it's giant PITA system!
Out of interest, what fork is in there at the moment?
standard 2013 tcx 2 tapered aluminium fork....just quite fancy a carbon fork
Ah, road bike. I did wonder.
You're going to be a bit stuck I expect unless you can get someone to machine a shim for you (it's a very simple design obviously)
yeah i was hoping to just get a crown race reducer, but its a no-go it seems!
This might help:

Plenty more if you google "headset 1 1/4 to 1 1/8 reducer"
aye, thats what i have on order, just cant see me getting an integrated headset to work.....unless i try a standard headset?
jeez, its frying my brain
Time for a new frame 🙂
