Looking to replace the fsa crank on my caad x with something from shimano so I can use my stages. As far as I am aware I have 3 options:

Use a praxis bb30 to shimano bb. The best but most expensive option

Take out the existing bb, use a a sleeve (fsa  make them), then fit a standard shimano bb. Cheaper than above option but sounds a bit of a bodge

Use an adapter, ie from wheels manufacturing. The cheapest option, doesn't require removal of existing bb30 (for which i don't have the tools), but again a bit of a bodge.

I have a praxis on another bike and its great,  but if I can save some cash i will. That said, nothing ruins a bike ride like a creaking crank, so any experience of the other 2 options would be appreciated

remove the existing BB, otherwise it will creak.

race face do one, also wheels manufacturing,  as do hope. i went with hope as they did a weird shell width which i needed for my DH bike.

Take it out and stick in the fsa shim , usually comes with glue, converted to an English thread 68/73mm

I’ve not had a creak out of my lefty f29er since doing it, a year ago.. and the Mt800 Xt bb is £12, and doesn’t need specialist tools to fit it, that one of my local shops used to take the p1ss

I forgot what bb my spec diverge was, but it never made a noise in 15 months, unfortunately the adaptors had seized solid, had to be cut out, went with the same type adaptor and now use a regular 68/73..

i will now avoid pf30 etc

Check your BB spec - some Cannondales have an internal rib that prevents the installation of certain adaptors - like having already dumped that BB30 crock-o-shite on the world, they then make it very difficult not to use something else.

Thanks dovebiker. I assume you need to remove the existing bb30 to know that right?

Think that would be classed as BB30a

My Slate has BB30a and there is some internal routing through the bottom bracket for the rear disk. I believe that prevents you putting through a sleeve adaptor as there isn't enough room.

No cables are routed through my bb30. Just checked.

I use a Hope PF46 (there is a PF41 as well, which one you need depends on your exact bb shell type). For some reason I think Cannondale is the PF41 version but you would need to check.

It needs a special tool to fit but it's a very well made bit of kit.

I've had to do a bearing change (note to self, putting bike away for 3 months filthy and wet is really bloody stupid) but that was dead easy using a high precision drifting tool (screwdriver) and the fitting tool to press new ones in.
