Out on the road bike today. Pulled up at a junction on the cycle box with a car behind me. One lane but the option to go straight ahead or left. I was to the left of the box and as the lights changed I clipped in then pedal off going straight on.

I sense the car behind overtaking me to the right, not an issue as I had left plenty of room, but then they decided to turn left, right infront of me! Luckily id just set off so pulled on the brakes. The female driver glared at me, as if id done something wrong. She clearly expected me to turn left, and had for some reason thought that it was in her best interests do this without waiting behind me.

No harm done but her reaction was the thing that really pissed me off. Its one thing making an error, its another to not actually realise you are completely in the wrong. First time i wished I had a helmet cam as people like that really need educated on how to drive properly.

Middle of the box from now on then, moving left once the danger of the idiot has passed.

Last week I had a bloke offer me some 'helpful advice' (his words) after I didn't pull into and block a yellow hatched junction to let him turn left.... I went straight to defcon **** on him.

Yep, sobriety +1. If you are lucky enough to not find the advanced box full of car, claim your space, make them wait!

Not a cycling related incident, but it could have been, I was driving through a small village today, and noticed a women in a car coming towards me, her rear left door was wide open, I pipped the horn, flashed my lights and shouted at her, she just kept going. I quickly turned round and chased after her, it a set of lights, I pulled up next to her and my girlfriend shouted across to her that her back door was open, she told us to "FO"! So, for a laugh, I waited for her to pull away and fed in behind her to watch the carnage. Sure enough, she went a few hundred yards and went to overtake a Transit, bang, the left back door slammed shut and she pulled up very quickly. I pulled up behind the van and went to talk to the driver, to tell him what happened and that I would be a witness, she was inspecting the damage to her car, then joined us very quickly and began berating the driver, when she saw me, her face was a picture, then, my girlfriend appeared and began waving her phone, she'd filmed the entire episode. We gave the driver our names and emails and started to walk away. The female in the car piped up, "what about me"? My girlfriend said, "can you remember what you told us to do?" she sheepishly replied, "yes", my girlfriend said, "well you can do the same".

No doubt, tomorrow, the fun will begin.

Quality, I like your GF CW!!

Mine from yesterday, right close to home, residential road with cars parked on the other side of a road in places so it narrows to one car only. I'm keeping pace with the car in front which has to slow every now and then for a speed bump and as it comes up to a parked car an oncoming vehicle stops to let it through, and as I'm only maybe 15 yards back, at the same speed, I carry on through too. Bearing in mind it is my RoW as the parked car is on the other side.

But NO!

That 15 yards was enough for the stupid woman to pull out and drive at me. I didn't do anything, no shouting, no gesturing (I may have rolled my eyes) - all I did was haul on anchors and pull into the kerb. She paused alongside me, shouted 'NOT YOU, YOU ****ER!' and then screeched off.

Absolutely deliberate, because she had a tin box and I didn't.

I think the hot weather is making people behave (even) worse than normal

Unless of course the road widens to the left a little after the junction and the half wit in the flat bed behind you decides to use that to squeeze past on your left then veer right across you as the road narrows again. The most terrifying noise on a road bike is a Transit diesel engine hitting the rev limiter behind you.

I had an odd one riding to work a few weeks back. I road i go down often has lorries parked on one side of it, other side to me. I was just riding along and was just getting to the parked lorry when i saw that there was a car coming the either way and not slowing for the obstruction, the driver must have suddenly ralised that i was there and did a hard stop pulling in behind the lorry. I went to raise my hand as a jester of thanks when the female drive stuck her middle finger up at me. No idea why.

Perhaps because you were wearing a funny hat and bells, while doing a jig?

Could be a few reasons: she hates cyclists; because your presence mildly inconvenienced her; she assumed your 'gesture' was going to be an attack, because that is what she gets all the time due to here terrible driving (that she has no awareness of). etc etc

not withstanding the stupid woman overtaking you at a set of lights but did you indicate which way you were going?

I don't go at the left of the box when I'm going straight on or right.

I saw a good one the other day. A flyover junction from an A road to slip roads to a motorway.

Car in front is slowing a little early to go onto motorway... Hmm.

Goes down the slip coming off the motorway. Realises mistake and reverses across oncoming lane and nearly into me. Luckily I'd slowed as I was suspicious. They then drive on to the correct sliproad but it has a triangular island... They go past ours and nearly have to 180 to go down the one for the other lane...

Very buzzare. Very poor. Very dangerous.

That happened to me once - driver turned left across me at lights. It was no left turn / no entry into a one way street. He did say sorry though.

Twice now I’ve been turning right (same junction), to the right of my lane with right arm out, and a car has overtaken me on the right hand side. The second time the driver had the decency to beep his horn as he was coming through...

Cycling up a roundabout on a dual carriageway where a third filter lane opens up to the left for people going that direction. I'm going straight on and always move to the centre of the road a): to stop cars/lorries trying to overtake me and get back into the lane again before the roundabout (doesn't always work, they still try!) and b): anything behind me going left can get into the filter lane quicker.

I'm at the roundabout waiting for a gap when a car pulls up next to me in the filter lane

Him - "You should have signalled"

Me - "Why?"

Him - "Because you moved over!"

Me - "I'm in the same lane!"

Him - "Yes - but you should have signalled"

Me - "And exactly what signal do I give for moving over in the same lane that doesn't make a driver in the right hand lane think I'm turning right?

Him - Harrumphs and drives off

A few years back I had someone try and squeeze past me at a traffic island. She must have misjudged how far out I was riding, and hit the kerb on the island with enough force that her offside front tyre exploded. Not just a puncture, a proper 'BANG!'.

I wish I had said something witty, but I was too busy pissing myself laughing to think of anything.

Hopefully she'll hang back next time 😀

Minor bump on the edinburgh bypass brought traffic to a halt, i mean literally it had just happened. Lady in white beamer clearly had somewhere to be...

3 point turn and back up the sliproad.

Was moving within 5minutes.

Today someone clearly feed up with waiting to turn right over the 60mph A9 traffic at Dunkeld just pulled out in front of me and stopped due to northbound traffic.... 😱

Cue 60-0 with added ABS and a scream from the French hitchhiker I had picked up.

I also got the fingers for having stopped so close to the driver's side of her car..... And then drove off staring at me, not looking where she was going.

The A9 is just mental.

Having inspected a number of railbridges along it i can confirm waiting to rejoin can be a bloody nightmare.

Driving in Surrey round corner under narrow road as there's a bridge. BMW cutting corner so partly on my side of the road, had to little maneuver to avoid hitting him, not sure his lightweight sporty thing would have come off well against a van. I don't understand cars cutting corners when it's obviously a busy road and you can't see round the corner.

you could be describing Salt Box Road there Akira......?

I take primary on the bike in the approach to it to dissuade drivers from overtaking. A lot of the time it does, but there's always an occasion when they overtake blindly into the narrow bit. Sadly (YKWIM), they've so far got away with it which just validates their idea that they're in the right.

One day though......
