Browsing round looking at shifters I stumbled upon THIS MODIFICATION to XT M770 shifters.
Basically it makes them Multi-Release just like XTR just by removing a small back-stop inside the shifter cover.
I like stuff like this, stuff 'they don't want you to know....' and I hope I'm not the only one!
🙂
Nice find Pete - don't have the shifters, but love stuff like this!
DrP
Good effort!
I’m going to give this a go when I get a free 10 mins!
This kind of thing is rife - design the top end stuff and then find it’s cheaper to make some functionality inaccessible rather than redesign an inferior model.
I was quite pleased finding that, myself. It's dated May 2010, so I'm surprised I've not heard of it before, TBH
Why would they put the stop there in the first place if it works well (better?) without it?
.
Cynical answer is to increase sales of more expensive XTR.
Les cynical answer says it's there for a reason, maybe removing it will make it wear out faster?
.
Anyway, good find, I like that.
Going to try that. Cheers.

So they can fi the same internals to XT and XTR to reduce production costs due to making more untits, but to keep the 'high end' feature of Multi Release exclusively for XTR to give you a reason to spend more money.....
Im STILL not sold on the multi release on down shifts. I have XT on one bike and XTR and I think I prefer single release.
Nice find. I've a set of each an always missed the multi release on the XT's.
There was a fs ad awhile back for some shifters that had been modded to XTR multi release. I wondered how they did it.

Likewise, I have a XTR shifter and sometimes double shift by accident, wich can get annoying. Considering changing to a Saint shifter as I hear they are a bit stiff/SRAM-like.
