I’m toying with the idea, and the dream of dry tracks next summer, of a lightweight mile munching xc bike again built up on the cheap from used parts, my last was a yeti arc that I kick myself I sold, but at least I still have the wheels.

Can anyone recommend frames and forks to start looking for, I’m thinking hardtail ideally and 100mm travel.

Anything that hasn't cracked and is still functional!

It's going to be 8/9yrs old at least, I don't really think you can afford to be too choosy if you're hell bent on going with 26"... It's one thing having a decent pair of 26" wheels, but finding good forks/frame and even decent XC tyres in 26" these days is a rarity!

I had a 29 back when they were the new thing, I much preferred the arc.

26 is fine for me, I’m an mtb Luddite I guess.

FrankConway I have not really thought that hard about it, it’s more an idea for after Xmas, hence the post to get some ideas so I can plot and it’s more a case of what interests me than what I will spend to be honest, the arc was a great bike so certainly no less than something like that. Feel free to drop me a line though I’d be interested to hear what you have.

I have a Kona Heihei Supreme frame, 63mm travel - the Scandium ultra racey job, weighs under 5lbs IIRC. Yours for cheap. Only issue is that it was lacquered instead of painted, and the lacquer has not lasted well. Frame is sound tho, and it's large.

Last year I built up a 26" xc hardtail , with mostly new parts , onto a 9 year old frame , and have been considering when the time comes , to transfer all of it including the 26" wheels , onto a 27.5 frame and just live the fact the BB will be 15mm or so lower.than intended.

Could this be an option for the OP ?

Will prob need 27.5 specific forks so as not to upset the geo / handling but will at least open up options of newer frames to use his 26" wheelset with..

Just a thought.

Just put some 26 tyres on ebay today.
Having a clear out as new bike arriving.
Stock piled a few over the years.
Keep an eye out the next week or so too.

Plus recommend a Blur Trc frame.
light responsive and can do the downs too.
Selling mine shortly with a front Talas shock that drops from 140 to 120 making the bike really versatile.

Selling the bike as a whole, but great frames if they come up for sale.
