I have a Thomson layback currently on my Dialled Alpine but thinking of trying out a Use Sumo. The standard one seems to be 10mm layback - would this get the saddle in the same position as the Thomson? There seems to be a 30mm Sumo but not really available anywhere...
Anyone compared the two?

The Thomson has 16mm of layback, according to Thomson, so you if you have 6mm of saddle rail spare you should be able to get the same basic position. I'm not overly convinced by Sumo posts - I've had several and the clamping mechanism with all of them only worked effectively with added carbon grease to up the friction co-efficient fastened with the specified torque, plus if you crank it up above that, the mechanism can fracture.
I've also had two cases of the head of the post de-bonding and rotating in the post. USE fixed one of them under warranty, no problems with customer service, they were great, but it shouldn't really happen in the first place. Admittedly that was with a lot of use, but it's left me a litte wary of Sumos.
Thanks for that, will have to think about it now. I've always thought of seatposts as something you fit and forget about - had Specialized, Bontrager and Thomson - only changed when I've changed frames.
Don't touch the USE - laughable quality in my experience!
