That'll get the NIMBYs in a flap🤪🤪
I'm amazed the community council are onboard.
The event has already won support from the town’s community council.
Chairman Alistair Pattullo said: “Event tourism is definitely the way forward and this will be a great boost for Selkirk.”
Fellow community councillor David Deacon added: “This is a great opportunity for Selkirk to host a major event.”
Sounds good, wish them the best of luck, hopefully I'll be there to spectate.
Could be tempted if it was Sep 4, Aug would be out due to hols though. Think it would depend on who they get racing...
Hope this happens, just a few mile doon the road from me, would definitely go and watch it
Turns out it's a mate of mine organising. Ooh!
I’m amazed the community council are onboard.
MTB is a big thing round here, Selkirk being at the other end of the Tweed Valley to Glentress. Innerleithen, Golfie, Yair, Thornielee in between, they are used to hosting MTB events, must account for a decent chunk of the tourist economy. I don't recognise the picture on the link though, doesn't look like Selkirk 😉

Writing this a couple of hundred yards from where the finish will be
Any idea how long the course would end up being (time rather than distance)?
Depends where they start. Could potentially start up on the golf course. Maybe 2 min course....
There was one in Scarborough once. Not sure whether it was repeated but the weather wasn’t kind and it finished early cos of a couple of bad shunts. What other UK towns have hosted urban downhill?
Glasgow - through the uni, it was pretty bad
Edinburgh - very short iirc, also involved a bit of a silly climb up a bridge over a road
UK ones have always looked pretty poor. Short and a lot of pedalling
Edinburgh hosted one, may have been same year as Scarborough. Think it was sponsored by Fat Face. Started at the Castle and finished in the Grassmarket.
Is it likely to attract any big names? I don't know how the urban DH circuit works, is it just of some wider world cup type thing?
Sheffield has had the Howard street dual for a few years. Of course Peaty being involved always helps
Swansea and Falmouth have both had them. Neither are exactly Valpariso
