So after 2 years riding around Les arcs ourselves Mrs hoppy might be joining me on a guided biking holiday next year. Due to work and logistics our available dates are limited to either May half term or the last week of the summer holidays.

If we go last week of the summer hols I'd probably just head back to white room, however May is a bit unknown.  We'd be wanting flow over gnarl to keep Mrs hoppy happy, uplifted but happy to put some additional climbing in, warm and European to keep the travel time sensible.  Has anyone been anywhere standout that meets those criteria? I'm guessing we'd be looking at Spain.

Finale. although it is fairly gnar, non gnar is there too.  Why is White room in May unknown? snow?

Otherwise i'd look at Sierra Nevada or Basque mtb

Had 4 holidays with Doug at BasqueMTB (3 of those with the wife) and always enjoyed it.

Doug also posts on here from time to time if you have any questions.

Basque.

Hondaribbia and San Sebastian great places. Unsure what things are like in May climate wise though. As Onzadog says Doug posts on here but get in touch via the website and he'll give you the low down.

We're closed in May, open mid-June. Too much snow still around in May. That time of year, I'd recommend Doug at BasqueMTB or Ian at Altitude Adventures. Otherwise, Spain or Finale!

A friend has just moved to spain, to setup a holiday company, and the villa, riding and location just looks amazing. Andy Weames who runs it is a great guy, and a very good all around rider so worth a look. they cater for all abilities and all types of riding.

Can recommend the basquemtb guys, especially the coastal one which is a bit more flowy and missus friendly!

Southern Spain in August gets crazy hot. I think Doug (Basque) shuts for August as well.

May? In the basque Country it could be nice, or it could snow.

Out of those options I'd go southern Spain in May.

Thanks guys, wasn't entirely clear there was I. May was unknown as the Alps are out and the areas that do appear to be open I don't really know much about.

If we go in the summer hols then SteveO and the white room crew have always delivered superb holidays and I wouldn't see a reason to go elsewhere.

Finale would get my vote. Huge variety of trails. Great for mixed abilities as even the best riders will get something out of the easier trails.

May is probably our favourite month down in southern Spain.

Based right on the beach with plenty of Winter sun to enjoy.

Stunning singletrack rides with plenty of bus uplift during the day & fun après-bike on the coast at night.

Just 560 Euros for a packed week!  http://www.sierramtb.com

Finale is hands down the best mountain bike place I've been to, but that doesnt mean  the others have not been good as well, they're just not as good as finale.

Bubion with switchbacks in southern spain - excellent

Lagos in southern portugal - excellent, but possibly a bit too full on downhill

Tenerife with lavatrax - excellent - good all year round option for the weather

Les arcs -great, but limited window of opportunity due to altitude/weather

We're off to madeira for the first time in a couple of days, looks excellent from everything I've seen.

same as you, freeride madeira. I'll report back with how it was. By all accounts I've read online it's pretty good though.

Was in Madeira with Freeride Madeira last May, was the third time we’ve been, did some of the stuff they did for the Trans Madeira Enduro. What a place, as techy as you like with a real variety of trails!

Love to try a trip with Basque MTB next!

Has anyone been to Livigno? Currently trying to decide between there and Basque mtb but the transfers look a pain.

Anyone doing pay as you go uplifts in southern europe that time of year? Looking at something boxing day to new year at the moment but not after a full on guided trip - if not might be the road bike

Benalmadena cable car. Bikes fit in the cabin. Pay per trip or per day.

Lots of technical descents from the top.

Do you know if there are 'uplifts' around the Basque coastal style route that can be done independently? We're thinking of heading over there for a family holiday in August and I think that BasqueMTB is closed at that time of year and we just want the odd day.

Of course in the alps you have the option of just take one of 2 lifts in a day or getting in a day's riding when the weather is good.

I have 3 kids that love riding. They don't have adult stamina for same amount of ups but give them a lift up they'll ride down till the vans go home of the chair lifts stop working 🙂
