Finally got round to booking an uplift day at Antur in 3 weeks.
5 going...badly equipped. None of us are DHer's (Comm Meta/Spesh Pitch/Spesh Enduro/Spesh FSR/Zesty), but some os uf have done the Alps so have a bit of experience. Between us we have various fullface lids/pressure suits/leg pads etc.
If you've done it, what would you say is the minimum requirement protection-wise? Will a normal lid be ok...hope so, or I need to find a fullface pretty sharpish!
Cheers
Full face and gloves is the min I'd say. Eyewear too if poss.
I'm riding Johns in a few weeks and I'm just wearing long sleeves and pants, gloves and a helmet. But I've got little in the way of protection.
A node peg - my goodness that bus at Cwm Carn was a bit pungent!!!

I've just booked my first trip to Antur for 5th April..
I would have thought you would want to wear a f/f helmet as a face plant on that terrain ain't gonna leave you too pretty.
As for armour, well that's a personal preference thing isn't it, I myself don't really feel right on a Dh type run without my pads on. Some would say I don't look right on one either but that's a different matter 😯
I was thinking a FF is probably the most important part - which is an arse is it's the only bit I don't have. Not been to the Alps for 6 years so FF long gone (was knackered anyway). Anyone got a FF they wanna lend that weekend? 😉
Not really a serious question but does leave me wondering what to do...(2 others as well).
where u based ? have large giro remedy kicking about
Knee pads, gloves and full face. Everything else is optional IMO.
Kimbers...Loughborough, it wasn't a serious proposition though...cheers
Depends on you and how you want to ride it tbh. I'd take my full face but I'd ride it without if I didn't have one.
allthegear 🙂 thats why cattle trucks get used at races.
Would recommend doing an uplift day on a DH venue in DH gear.
If your a touch rusty anyway even more so. If you have good skills and don't intend to go balls out, then maybe chance it, at your peril.
Any armour you have, a full face, goggles in case you face plant into rocks, gloves are good.
Also, put in fresh brake pads, bed them in, and don't skimp....get a complete spare set and remember to take them in case it's wet and gritty and you go through pads a bit quick like, seen a few pack up early over "brake problems" 🙂 and mates won't lend or have different brakes anyway. Check and service spd cleats, in case you need to eject sharp like, First aid kit is always handy too, think more of good luck mojo, if you have one, you won't need to use it.
Have fun.
Booked to go in a couple of months, bought a full face and leg pads, don't usually wear them but better to be safe. Don't intend on going full out but I always say that beforehand!
Dual ply tyres will really enhance your enjoyment, you may waste time fixing punctures otherwise. Defo full face, there is only really rock to land on, but it depends how much you value your teeth?! Have fun, it's a great venue.
what date you going?
I would recommend a full face but you can use just an XC lid, although you can't do Black powder and the double black.
I went last year and just wore knee pads which were fine. I ride a rocky mountain altitude and everything was good so i cant see an issue with the bikes mentioned.
I've a large pressure suit if you want one cheep. Decided that I prefer riding without it after breaking my arm*. Now I just use some 661 padded shorts and knee pads.
And vaseline/sudocrem/chamois cream, anything to stop nipple chafage under the armour.
*I was lovely and scratch free under the armour though, just broken.
I thought for the black run it was full face only?
Never been, but planning on going in the next couple of months.
What Gear? Well you wont need the granny ring if your getting an uplift.
tee hee
I've heard people say that a fullface is mandatory for some trails, but I couldn't see anything on the signup?
it's full face Mandatory for the 2 black runs. XC helmet for the red and blue.
What's the source for that though? On the website it says a helmet must be worn but that's all I can see.
on the signs when your there and the disclaimer you sign.
Cheers, that's good to know- a group of us are going in April, might make a difference to some of the folks that are going. Kind of ridiculous that they don't make that clear in advance.
