Hi
I am looking to upgrade from my current setup of Hope Pro 2's on Mavic EN521 rims to something a bit lighter, probably the Mavic Crosmax SXs (can get a set for £520 instead of £660). Couple of questions I hope you guys might be able to help with:
1. How much will I notice the 250/300g weight saving in the wheel itself? Last time I used my Pro 2/EN521 combo they felt very draggy and heavy(though this could be down to fitness / tyres (high roller / minion))
2. Has anyone had any problems with the MAvic ITS4 hubs breaking?
My biggest worry is that I am wanting to upgrade because the MAvic wheels are lighter on paper but I wont notice any real increase in performance with them.
Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks
hi, not sure about the effect on mountain bikes, but changed my road bike wheels last year and there was a noticable difference...... ps give us a shout if you end up selling your hope pro 2's, just got a spicey 316 and thinking of "upgrading" the wheels it comes with ...they aint to hot 🙂
I think it's noticable but you could try it yourself for cheapish by fitting some really light tyres & tubes which should give the same effect on accelerating etc.
There's a bush in the back of the freehub body which tends to wear quicker than anything else on those hubs. Means the freehub develops play. A bit annoying, but not the end of the world.
They're good otherwise. Personally, if I were spending that much on some wheels I'd be custom building, you'll likely end up with something lighter/stiffer/stronger/cheaper or a combination of those!
