Whilst my broken wrist is feeling strong by the day, I’ve been left with a week thumb with almost no feeling still. Just had a spin on the mtb and changing gear is impossible.
Di2 on road is fine.
Does this mean I actually have a genuine reason to buy the AXS upgrade?
The shift on the mechanical was lovely as far as I can tell (wrist break on first ride).
Im just not sure how long before thumb is back up to full duties, I’m six weeks in.
I have a slightly arthritic thumb and always struggled with triggers and had to use gripshift until AXS if that’s any sort of justification…
Archer d1x would, and did, get my money in a similar circumstance.
Then I suppose I could build a hard tail around the spare shifter and mech, so in the end I'd actually be saving money.
Why not 🙂 ?
Ordered from Bike Tart
My wrist got back to good enough strength pretty quickly after getting back to riding. I don't say full strength as that's never going to happen for me but I struggled to shift on my road bike(left wrist) for a while but all was fine after a few months.
I’m considering it having just had surgery on my right thumb. I will give it a few rides first to see if the strength returns
it's a sign.... ride singlespeed
Sounds like a perfect reason enjoy I have not read a bad review, I am in similar position would love to buy but can't currently see the benefit over current XX1.
Don’t forget when you get it that you have the extra ‘hidden’ trigger on the top that can be activated with your index finger and programmed to operate either up or down. Once you get used to it, you will only have to use your thumb for half the shifts anyway.
Just done my first road ride after 7 weeks off.
Di2 made it a doddle, I’ve yet to reprogram it to use the hood buttons or use auto mode.
2 hours 30 miles felt okay.
I think the AXS should be a massive help.
I'd love to upgrade to the GX AXS, and I don't think the inital cost is too outrageous. My worry is the frequency with which I have smacked and busted derailieurs, no doubt within minutes of fitting one I'd have to be forking out for a new one...

They have the impact clutch thing, so it might be the excuse you need.
