Hi all-
I've got a set of 100mm Recon Gold TKs from about 2015 on the hardtail (29er). The remote lockout on these has become iffy, and it turns out that the plastic top cap on the forks has been slowly getting rounded off by the outer metal ring.
I can bodge it, but its a TK fork and, tbh, the on/off nature of the lockout was pretty crap anyway, so I'd probably want to swap the damper for one with a non-remote lockout.
However- I seem to remember that these could be upgraded with a Reba damper, maybe even the RL, so maybe its time for a damper upgrade to something better....has anyone ever done this?

Recon Gold TK
A wee update for posterity on anyone who's ever intending to do this.
Firstly, things I didn't know: "silver" has steel uppers, gold has aluminium. Dampers are specific to each; a a silver-specific damper will not work in a gold, and vice versa.
For this generation of fork, 32mm wide uppers were used. Mine being gold, I have some possible options on dampers from similar forks of this period.
What I was looking for was something where the damper was approximately the same length, had better/more controllable damping, and non-remote controls. What I ended up buying was this:
Rock Shox Motion Control DNA Crown Adjust Compression Damper with Knobs.

Technically, this was supplied with the Revelation RLT 2012-2015 forks, but fits mine. It was approximately 2cm shorter, which meant that I added 2cms of fork oil to the lowers to get the level correct....
It works really well, with a chunk more controllability as it features a 'floodgate control', allowing some bypass control for harder hits. (Or so I understand).
Anyway- I'm happy.
